Peaking as a CAT 3, Hurricane Vance is now the 7TH consecutive Major Hurricane in the East Pacific.
Every storm that has formed here since mid-September has achieved winds of at least 115 MPH.
For comparison, the most intense Atlantic Season ever had 7 Major Hurricanes TOTAL.

This is crazy.
After making landfall in Yonaguni, Typhoon Champi sharply veered off course, destroyed herself with the mountains of Taiwan, then looped back around and basically made landfall over tiny Yonaguni AGAIN.
All in the span of 12 hours.

There are moments where our planet shows us how small we are.
This is one of those moments.
Extremely high-resolution view of mesovortices inside the 895 MBAR Stadium Effect of Super Typhoon Champi right now, as the air rushing into this 35 mile-wide vacuum accelerates the serrated, 50,000 ft high thunderstorms in the eyewall to sustained wind speeds of 185 MPH with gusts up to 225 MPH.

As the reflectivity (albedo) of Earth continues to set new record lows, more of the incoming solar radiation is absorbed by the Earth system, increasing the amount of energy available to heat the oceans, atmosphere, and land, and to melt ice.

My favorite astrophoto of the year caught the perfect moment light & dark split in two during a total solar eclipse. Captured near Ibiza, I titled it “Shadows on the Balearic Sea”
It now graces the cover of my 2027 calendar, now available for preorder: cosmicbackground.io/products…

Mt. Lemmon, Arizona near Tucson received significant rain over the last 24 hours. Streams that normally trickle quietly through the forest are now roaring downhill and reminding us just how powerful a mountain storm can be.

This is an exceedingly rare satellite loop for the East Pacific.
Last night, Hurricanes Polo and Odalys rapidly intensified SIMULTANEOUSLY within just 1,000 miles of each other, reaching 180 MPH and 130 MPH peak strengths at exactly the same time.
El Niño-fueled hyperactivity.

Insane new video of the NOAA Hurricane Hunters navigating through the 180 MPH eyewall of Hurricane Polo yesterday before reaching the massive Stadium Effect of the eye.
These are some of the bravest and most skilled pilots in the entire world.
