SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026) Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love. We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway. America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire. His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen. Ian McKellen 29 October 2026 Photo: University of Huddersfield

I think the funniest thing about AO3 being down is that Wattpad showed up like “we’re here for you in this trying time” and literally every comment is telling them to gtfo like they’re a toxic ex trying to work their way back into people’s lives 😭🤣

“In Braindance, nothing separates the audience from the action. It’s just one layer deep. But film has a screen. It acts like a boundary. One you’re supposed to cross, so you forget it was ever there. Stories transport us. That’s why they matter. Why we still need them. “ —my son, 3, who is a lot smarter than I am.

This breaks my heart. I’ve always been an avid reader & it was my escape when I lived in an abusive household. One of my most distinct memories is that when we moved house, my mother threw out ALL of my books without so much as notifying me until I had to unpack. Devastating. /1
I have an older gentleman who comes into the shop about once a week. He’s very quiet, says hello, browses books for half an hour or so, finds something he likes, leaves. Today he told me that he has spent years trying to rebuild his library after his wife decided she was

I’m 27 years old now, and I live with my partner and our cat, with over 300 books sitting on my bookshelves. Every time I look at them, it brings me so much joy. I rebuilt that after it felt like my very soul had been ripped away from me. /2

To some, this probably sounds dramatic. To me, it was one of the greatest betrayals that stuck with me even though it was never the worst of the abuse I faced. Books were something that were just for me. They weren’t hurting anyone. Please don’t hurt someone this way.

This is genuinely heartbreaking. My partner’s fav games are the Mass Effect and Dragon Age and he was so looking forward the next instalment of Mass Effect. I feel so much for all the talented people who are going to be out of work. 🥺

Hey cuties, Support Em, support Cam, listen to POC when they’re addressing micro aggressions- even if you don’t perceive them as such, and support victims. I’m not going to delete anything I said, but I’m read to go back to my normal shit posting. Much love to all involved.
