Dutch solidarity activist Olax Outis has been found NOT GUILTY by a jury at Southwark Crown Court following a four-day trial over spray-painting messages including “Free Palestine” and “Stop the Genocide” on a statue of Churchill in February.
Olax was arrested inside the courtroom shortly after beginning his closing defence speech, after continuing to refer to genocide despite instructions from the judge not to do so.
Despite the courtroom confrontation, the jury returned a unanimous NOT GUILTY verdict within a couple of hours. Olax is now free following the verdict.
The case comes amid growing controversy over the use of terrorism and protest laws against activists in Britain and internationally, with campaigners warning that increasingly broad legal measures are being used to criminalise political protest and solidarity activism.

After three hours, they ran out of time for the motion and the meeting ended with Gaza protesters shouting down at council leader Sagal Abdi-Wali, the Labour candidate in Holborn and St Pancras.
Meetings at the Town Hall have been repeatedly disrupted by demonstrations relating to council pension deposits in arms companies.

Today, I am filing a lawsuit against Columbia University and SIPA Dean Keren Yarhi-Milo for their gross and systemic discrimination against Palestinian students at Columbia. I am joined in this action by my friends at the Palestine Working Group.
Columbia laid the groundwork for my targeting by the Trump administration through its deliberate indifference and discrimination aimed at intimidating Palestinian students. For over two years, we pleaded with Columbia. Columbia did not care. Our safety and our wellbeing did not serve the ideological project its Board of Trustees was protecting, so they traded us away.
We are suing because no student should ever have to go through the hell Columbia put us through all these years.
I will continue to seek accountability for all the wrongs that were done to me and my peers. Next, I will turn to the hateful individuals at Columbia who were also responsible for what we endured. Stay tuned.
