The saree was never meant to be a designerโs trophy. It was meant for every woman.
From the wealthiest households to the most ordinary ones, the saree belonged to all not as a costume, but as clothing. It looked graceful on a slim frame, dignified on a fuller one, and effortlessly elegant on a woman who had no time to chase a sculpted body between work, family, and life. It did not demand perfection; it accommodated life.
What we see on fashion runways today is a distortion. Draped on skeletal models and sold as an exclusive, unattainable โPiece,โ the saree is being stripped of its original purpose. It is no longer celebrated as everyday wear, it is being marketed as a luxury statement that only a certain body can โCarry.โ That is not elevation. That is erasure.
A saree should make a woman look comfortable, confident, and unapologetically herself โ not judged against a runway standard. Heroines and models may profit from it, but the saree has always been the quiet, powerful statement of the ordinary woman. Let it remain that.

2) Kashmiri Pandits were killed as part of a drive for the Islamisation of Jammu and Kashmir. Nearly the entire population of kashmiri pandits were forced out of the Valley. That included my grandparents and other relatives.
