There are no studies on how the reclaimed ground in #Gulhifalhu is ##settling. It is the only place I know of in Maldives where #reclamation has been carried out at such depths (>15 m).
If the ground has not settled properly, buildings could #tilt, #sink, or in the worst case #collapse. Utility and road infrastructure constructed could be damaged due to differential settlement. This may be a more significant issue in the deeper lagoon that was reclaimed.
As a coastal #engineer and researcher, it is my opinion that more studies have to be carried out on the stability of the ground before development starts on Gulhifalhu, to avoid significant loss of time, money, and ensure safety of its residents.
