the only worry I have about the new dune is how they handle chani. she was so based and muad dib with perfect knowledge of foresight is caught in a trap. either you commit to the golden path or remove yourself from the timeline. however either way the path will happen and chani will die.
he does everything to delay her death as long as possible due to knowing it will come to pass. thus when he leaves into the desert in grief after her death, only to return to destroy that theocracy that was built in his name, the full circle of what was seen comes to pass.. including his own death. the full circle vengence is deliciously well written. the vindication of his son, Leto II, seeing where his father fell and choosing to commit to it is such a perfect sequence.
strong characters make hard choices. the parallels between both leto II and Muad Dib are incredible.
This is the problem with a lot of "media literates" and their interpretations of Dune. They latch on to Herbert's brief psychosis when he wrote Messiah and not the wider themes of the entire series. Paul, and then Leto II, where not only entirely justified in their actions but entirely morally correct.
If you take it at just the first three books, Paul overthrows a stagnant, feudal corporatist empire who's leader was willing to cozy up with hedonistic pedophiles in order to kill a man he viewed like a son because said man's popularity threatened his family's dynastic power. The Great Houses where willing to fight to defend this system, and suffered for it. And the machinations of the Bene Gesserit lead to all this to begin with when Paul was impossible to control. To say nothing of Alia's brief rule, an abomination of the Bene Gesserit's own making.
Leto II meanwhile says verbatim Paul's failure was not going far enough. The Golden Path was essential to saving humanity from itself and threats beyond. If you take Brian Herbert's two follow up novels as canon, if Leto II hadn't enacted the atrocities of the Golden Path, humanity would have been wiped out by Omnius as they would have been totally unprepared to confront him. Note that Brian Herbert based these two books off his father's notes.
Saying "Paul is actually the villain" is ignoring context for the ramblings of an unwell author who couldn't read his own work despite the fact he wrote it.

Eric Morris is so locked in, his birthday is the same as Pistol Pete. Hell yeah.
In 1923, a U.S. deputy marshal, Frank B. "Pistol Pete" Eaton, headed Stillwater's Armistice Day Parade. At the parade's end, the search for a new mascot was over.
The spirited image of the tough cowboy has served as a symbol for #okstate ever since.
Happy birthday to Frank Eaton, the original Pistol Pete!
They even got @jockowillink in it. Looks legit.
This is the worst it will ever be

Dude saves lives and at the end heβs upset about not doing more. Says it was the teacher who allowed it to happen.
Incredible.
Bend, Oregon man who shot and killed a shooter at his daughters' school speaks out, praises female teacher for fighting the shooter, allowing him to have a clear shot.
Kaylub Giamanco says he is haunted by the sound of children pleading for their lives.
He also praised the teacher for grabbing the gunman's weapon, allowing him to take a shot at the shooter.
"I want to recognize [the teacher]. She gave me the opportunity to make my shot without losing my life..."
"I swung the door open, and I stepped in, and I fired, and they dropped to the ground... I looked down at the gunman, and he was scrambling for his weapon. And I looked at him, and I shot him 2 more times..."
We shot -13 under legit. The winning team (who didnβt show up after) won with a -21 score.
See even geologist lie.
nice.
So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.
