gold reached its January 1980 peak of about $850oz while the U.S. fed funds rate was around 14% and subsequently climbed above 20%. So the generic expectation of
“rates up = gold down” clearly breaks down in inflationary regimes.
They are playing the same game, but to the end.
I don’t want to lecture anyone. I just want to remind you that rising rates do NOT go hand in hand with lower gold, silver and commodities in general. Quite the opposite in fact. During 1977/8 and the early 80ies, rates started to move higher, first, in an orderly way (single digits) then all of a sudden exploded into double digits. That was the most impressive commodity cycle I’ve have ever seen!

This is one hell of a Bull flag on the 10yr yield.
The Fed doesn’t set US Rates. The rest of the world does. Us10yr

How to make the U.S. Housing Market Affordable again.
The current monthly mortgage payment is $2,800/month, inclusive of taxes and insurance.
$2,100/month is sweet spot to unlock affordability.
How do we get there?
Mortgage Rates to 5.3%, home values down by 15%.
Mortgage Rates to 4.8%, home values down by 10%.
Mortgage Rates to 4.3%, home values down by 5%.
Both mortgage rates and home values need to decline to bring affordability back.
Click the thread below to learn more about these assumptions and how this can be achieved.
