This is why I hardly work with Nigerians in diaspora.
I think most Nigerians overestimate themselves and their skillset. No thanks to social media, people go for interviews with unrealistic salary figures because “I am pricing my worth”
China, India, Philippines and Kenya are becoming global commercial powerhouses because they are leveraging on their low currency to dollar disparity to provide cheaper labour for high currency rate countries in the west. Thereby providing jobs for their people.
But Nigerians want to be paid same wage someone in UK, Europe or the Americas earn simply because “I know my worth”
My Chinese Partner was telling me yesterday there are places in China with average monthly pay of less than $250. India is less than $65. Same with Philipines and Kenya.
Nigeria has a minimum wage of 70,000 Naira which is around $50, international and local companies will price your skillset in your local currency starting from your minimum wage.
Many Nigerians are financially delusional for a people that is the poverty capital of the world with the highest out of school children and the most terrorised country in the world.
Thats how I interviewed a young lady for a part time admin role and she said her salary expectation is 1.5 million naira. For Admin ?? In Nigeria?
For same amount I can get a part time admin here in the UK 25 hours a week.m, and they would pray for me daily cos the job market now in UK is horrible. No jobs.
But a remote worker in Nigeria wants 1.5 million Naira to do a part time admin work.
Everyone wants to rich overnight.
You guys are not serious
This is the tweet!
People fail to realize that AI taking entry-level and mid-tier jobs also makes their own job market or client base more saturated.
People have no work to do, so they either settle for jobs below their level, which unfortunately means more competition for the people laughing. And for those with established SaaS products, they get more competitors because people can now build and ship products with ease, and probably even reverse-engineer their existing products.
But hey, “adapt or get left behind” lol.
Gets easier to see when privilege speaks on here about recent situations in tech / design. Usually in that bashful, condescending tone.
Not surprising to me, you almost can tell these guys haven't interacted with designers or juniors outside their circles in months. They have no idea how worse things have gotten / (will get).
They assume "getting with the program" is enough nowadays. An extra skill, an extra update. Truth is, doesn't actually matter anymore.
Where privilege and resources speak, reason often go unoticed.
I am inclined to just quietly enjoy my current artsy disposition and build a community of like-minded craftsmen but once in a while, I realise how important it is to call echo reality.
On the flip side, it does seem people are addicted to the pandemonium.

Where I’ve had the most luck getting clients as a 3D artist / Motion Designer / Video Editor
This is based on my personal experience, not some universal rule. Your mileage may vary.
Let’s get into it 🧵
The biggest takeaway?
The platform matters, but so does the kind of content you post.
Getting attention is one thing. Getting the attention of people who can actually pay you is another.
So happy for this man, almost looked like all his career would be about scoring goals with nothing to show for it
