Hi guys, I have a story out—my first in two years!
I'm so excited to share it with you all. It's an experimental fiction piece about a world where suddenly people's sins began to play over their heads in a hologram.
It is published on @Iskanchipress

Remember Name, Animal, Place, Thing? One sheet of paper, one biro, and somebody arguing that "Kangaroo" was a place?
I built it as a daily game. And I made three other word games to go with it.

This is exceptionally disappointing. Vauhini Vara has been treading a fine line using AI in her writing as a “critique” of tech, first in Ghosts then in her memoir, where she raised good questions about how tech shapes our personhood, knowledge, and episteme. Until this moment:
Exclusive: Another prestigious award has gone to a writer who seems to have used AI as the crisis of trust in the literary world intensifies, @vauhinivara reports: theatlantic.com/books/2026/1…
Y'all let me know when the Lagos Life inflation is solved. For now, it has no play value—just a dating app with extra steps.

Dear @akefestival,
I am sending this pitch as both a dedicated writer who is committed to the literary community and even more, a big fan of the work that you have been doing at showcasing the wide expanse of African creatives and their work. My work "In Defense..." was..

Ammu died in a grimy room in the Bharat Lodge in Allepey...She died alone. With a noisy ceiling fan for company and no Estha to lie at the back of her and talk to her. She was thirty-one. Not old, not young, but a viable, die-able age.

1. Let me re-introduce myself. My name is Carl Terver, founder and editor of the literary magazine, @Afapinen (afapinen.com)
Starting today, I shall begin a 100-day of funding campaign for my magazine.
2. Afapinen began publication since 2021, with great success so far. I have published over 100 critical essays, some of which made it to “Best Essays of the Year” lists. Many of our writers debuted in Afapinen and their experience from this has taken them further in their careers.
This keys into my vision “to platform new voices in critical writing on visual art, literature, and music, in defining a new age.”
3. So far, I have achieved this from pocket.
But one of the major problems facing literary magazines, especially in the continent, is the lack of funding. I, too, suffer the same fate.
4. I am doing this funding campaign so that “I don’t go home,” but go harder—to deliver better, and to expand my magazine’s potential and vision.
If you see this on your timeline, whether you are into arts or not, this is about supporting a Nigerian dream.
It may be difficult to understand what a literary magazine does in the larger society, but it matters so much in the long run. We document history.
5. Support your local cultural entrepreneurs. Support literature. Support Afapinen. Share this post. Mention anyone in the CS you think can support.
I love you all. Thank you in advance.
