This week, a ceasefire brokered by Melania Trump is finally getting starving civilians out of Oleshky, a Russian-occupied town in southern Ukraine. Russia wrote this part of Ukraine into its constitution in 2022, so by Moscow’s own rules these people are “its citizens.” When Ukraine’s military dropped almost 4 tonnes of food by drone, Russian troops seized the packages and abducted locals who picked them up. The only other way to get food was a 15-mile walk down a mined road locals call the “road of death.”

If Trump loses Congress, he might just YOLO it, give up on domestic policy and spend his last 2 years cutting deals with Putin and Xi. Could a Democratic Congress end up being bad news for Ukraine?
