I think one of the most important things to realize sooner rather than later as a father is that having young kids is not the time to be in constant “go, go, go” mode. You don’t need a million projects. You don’t need to spend every waking hour chasing more money. I keep reminding myself that if there’s one season of life I’ll probably wish I could have back, it’s this one. The little kids. Waking up and having them run to you. Going to the pool. Playing. Hearing them laugh. It’s mentally exhausting sometimes, but it’s also one of the most fun seasons of life. I know I’ll never get to revisit this time when it passes. I could spend my entire life working for more money. But eventually, I’d trade almost anything to have these years back. Money matters. But it doesn’t mean nearly as much as we sometimes convince ourselves it does.

Politicians, you can’t fix the fertility crisis with speeches. Fix the money first. And the jobs that pay enough to change that are sitting in cities where none of it is affordable anyway. Could you buy a house in the middle of nowhere if you work remote? Sure. But that’s not where the good jobs are. Nobody builds a family under these circumstances.
