Power outage from 12 am , still ongoing - Raju Nagar. Thoraipakkam, Chennai 600097.. No useful response from TNEB complaint centre. Registered complaint but no update and no info. Completely at the mercy of inattention, incompetence, of TNEB.!! @CMOTamilnadu @tnebltd

Thanks to The Hindu for carrying this comment on India's NDCs. Key points: 1. Continuing and incremental is the watchword at this stage -- too many headwinds for any drastic changes 2. Incremental increase in commitments do NOT mean that new pledges are a "walk in the park"

5. India's NDCs cannot be tailored to "ensuring" a 1.5 deg future. If India's current and historical emissions were the global standard, there would be probably no climate crisis at all!! We cannot fix what the rich of the world refuse to do. @KanitkarT @3rdworldnetwork @moefcc

Congratulations to the IITM authors and IMD. Important new advance...
🌩️ India Enters the Big League of Global Weather Forecasting! Huge milestone in Indian weather science! The India Meteorological Department (IMD has officially adopted the Bharat Forecast System (BFS) as its core global forecasting model — a homegrown high-resolution global model developed by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune. This marks a major scientific leap for India, enabling more accurate predictions of tropical weather: monsoons, cyclones, and extreme rainfall. The system is based on the HGFM v1 (High-resolution Global Forecast Model), now peer-reviewed and published in Geoscientific Model Development: 📘 [gmd.copernicus.org/articles/…] 🔍 What Makes the Bharat Forecast System Stand Out? ✅ Ultra-High Resolution Spectral resolution T2047 (\~6 km) over tropics — among the highest globally 137 vertical levels, model top at 0.01 hPa ✅ State-of-the-Art Coupled Modeling Atmosphere–Ocean–Land–Ice coupling via CMEPS mediator Ocean component: MOM6, Land: Noah LSM ✅ Advanced Data Assimilation 4D-Var system using GSI, assimilating satellite radiances, in-situ, and upper-air observations ✅ Tailored Physics for Monsoon Dynamics 🌦️Deep convection: Zhang–McFarlane 🌤️Shallow convection: UW scheme ⛅Cloud microphysics: GFDL 🌬️ PBL: MYNN Level 2.5 🌞 Radiation : RRTMG 🌱Land surface: Noah LSM 🌫️ Aerosol-radiation interaction: CAM-style coupling 👨‍🔬 Kudos to the visionary scientists at IITM and IMD for this giant leap in indigenous capability!

@airindia @airseva1 On AI 2835 Delhi to Chennai. A320. Sold a seat 7F as extra legroom. Cramped, first seat behind Premium Economy. Dishonest. To make it worse, the travel agent books the window seat, when I had expressly said aisle!! 2.5 claustrophobic hours ahead.

Most of India’s workers must work extremely long hours to earn a living. The reason: Indian industry derives its competitive advantage from cheap labour rather than innovation. Captains of the Indian industry have been shooting themselves in the foot. @Hindu @iitdelhi @ISASNus

To carry credibility the EU must take a break with the US on this issue. The EU parliament must pass a resolution condemning the US withdrawal. And come to COP30 with a credible strategy of meeting developing country concerns, not preaching abstinence and sacrifice to the poor.

Am confused. Is this revelatory. Or affirming what simple logical deduction would tell us: lowered castes comprise higher % of manual and exposed work - when heat rises they will suffer more.
“Caste Inequality in Occupational Exposure to Heat Waves in India”: Arpit Shah, Deepak Malghan et al. pair satellite imagery & demographic data & find strong connections between caste, occupation & heat exposure, best described as “thermal injustice.” ow.ly/ep2A50UVTog
