8 years ago, I started a project: we made >17,000 phone calls to about 650 ultra-poor women in rural Ethiopia. We called it "Her Time," experimenting with new methods to understand these women's experiences, and what we miss in usual methods.
First results in VoxDev today! 🧵

Ok yes but also… deep work at home is a luxury not afforded to those who engage in substantial care work (which need not require the immediate presence of other people). Disappointing that this paper speaks little to this except in motivating the introduction.
Yep and not only is distraction in workplaces important, but also in parenting and early childhood development…. @AlisonBaulos

Senator @JDVance said that economists disagree about whether tariffs lead to higher prices. So this week, the University of Chicago surveyed economists and asked them exactly this question.
Welker: Do you acknowledge that consumers will ultimately pay more if there are more tariffs. Do you acknowledge that?
Vance: No, I don’t. Economists disagree about the effects of tariffs..
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Economists overwhelmingly agree that tariffs raise prices and harm an economy. For example, 95 percent of American Economics Association members have repeatedly agreed that "tariffs and import quotas usually reduce general economic welfare."
