Pope Kiril I: “David, it is the terror of life: No man can carry another man’s burden.”
Fr. David Telemond: “It is the terror of the Church, too. I hate her!
And still I can’t leave her.
I love her.
And still I can’t live in her in peace.”

In 1923, a U.S. deputy marshal, Frank B. "Pistol Pete" Eaton, headed Stillwater's Armistice Day Parade. At the parade's end, the search for a new mascot was over.
The spirited image of the tough cowboy has served as a symbol for #okstate ever since.
Happy birthday to Frank Eaton, the original Pistol Pete!

Today, the calendar makes a right triangle, for the last time this century.
This Saturday is October 24, 2026.
Write it as 10/24/26 or 24/10/26, and the same beautiful relationship appears:
10² + 24² = 26²
100 + 576 = 676
But here’s what makes today special.
There are infinitely many Pythagorean triples. Only a handful fit our calendar.
Using the rule
month² + day² = (last two digits of the year)²,
the month cannot exceed 12, and the day cannot exceed 31. Those small limits leave exactly 12 qualifying dates in this century.
Today is the last.
The next will be March 4, 2105:
3² + 4² = 5²
That is a wait of more than 78 years.
An infinite family of triangles. Just twelve appearances on a century’s calendar.
Happy Pythagorean Triple Day.

Mr. Rogers, who studied for seminary before going into children’s TV, signed off every show with the words, “You've made this day a special day by just your being you. There's no person in the whole world like you, and I like you just the way you are."He looked straight at the camera when he said those words.
One of his videographers had been a wounded and angry man. He felt unloved by his dad, and by God. And one day, filming those final words, a ray of grace broke through. He pulled Mr Rogers aside and said, “You know, when you said that today to the kids, I felt like you were talking to me.”
Mr. Rogers said, “I’ve been saying that line directly, specifically to YOU for the past two years.”
It’s easy to listen to scripture and think God is talking to someone else. He’s not. He’s talking to YOU. Looking at YOU. Telling YOU that one thing we never grow past needing to hear: I love you. You are my son. You are my daughter. Just because you are you.

Doctors at Gemelli Hospital removed a cancerous tumor from Pope Leo XIV’s right lung, according to the Holy See Press Office. The surgery was successful, with no complications, and the Holy Father has returned to his hospital room.
We ask the faithful to continue praying for Pope Leo’s recovery and for the doctors and staff caring for him. We also hold in prayer all who are living with cancer, their families, and those who care for them.

“Rewards and punishments are the lowest form of education.” — Zhuang Tzu
A person who behaves well only because they expect a reward has learned to pursue the reward, not necessarily to understand the value of the behavior itself. Likewise, someone who avoids wrongdoing only because they fear punishment may not have developed an inner sense of responsibility. Zhuang Tzu's observation points toward a deeper kind of education, one that transforms understanding rather than simply controlling behavior. External consequences can influence people, and they have practical purposes in many situations. But they cannot fully create wisdom, compassion, or integrity. A child who shares because they will receive praise may eventually stop sharing when nobody is watching. A person who acts honestly only because dishonesty might be punished has not necessarily discovered why honesty matters. The strongest lessons become part of the character rather than remaining rules imposed from outside. Education at its deepest level helps people understand consequences, develop judgment, and recognize the value of their choices. It teaches them to ask not merely, “What will I get?” or “What will happen to me?” but, “What is the right thing to do?” This kind of learning takes longer because it cannot simply be handed down as a list of rewards and punishments. It must be experienced, questioned, and internalized. When understanding replaces fear as the foundation of behavior, education begins to shape not just actions, but the person behind them.

One of the greatest cheat codes in life is to never get offended. Train yourself to have thick skin. Don't take things personally. Let others disagree with you. Being easily offended means you're easily manipulated. If you value peace of mind, avoid getting offended.
