Alongside the #GERD, the country is building another massive hydropower project on the Omo River in the southwest, as it expands electricity production and exports power to neighbouring countries.

🇮🇱🇪🇹 #Ethiopia has one of the oldest jewish communities in the world. Between the 1970s and the 1990s, this community was persecuted under the communist regime, and 20,000 Ethiopian jews were evacuated.
But a few thousand were left behind and are still waiting to rejoin their friends and family in Israël.

Somali refugees displaced by fighting with Al-Shabaab are being registered for Ethiopia’s national Fayeda ID, giving them access to services including healthcare, education, employment and freedom of movement.
France 24 reports that 120,000 IDs have been issued, while about 400,000 refugees are in the registration process.

🇪🇹 The #Ethiopian government, partnered with #UNHCR, is integrating refugees via mass issuance of digital IDs.
Labelled the Fayda system, Amharic for “value”, it allows refugees the freedom to move throughout the country, access to education, and the ability to get a job.
🇸🇴 In the #Somali region, the initiative is giving hope to thousands who have fled Al-Shabaab and have been living in camps for years in limbo in some cases for decades.

Turkish leader Erdogan played a devious practical joke on NATO leaders.
A fully loaded pistol in a gift box, hand-signed by the Turkish President himself, was given to each head of delegation before departing.
Naturally, most did not bother opening the gift bag right there and then.
Once they landed in their home countries, things went haywire.
All the gift boxes in the luggage of various delegations were confiscated by airport police.
Legally, you cannot carry a weapon into an aircraft - even a legally-registered weapon. It is a serious offence. You could be jailed.

News: #Ethiopia excluded from global food crisis report due to data gaps despite ongoing humanitarian food needs
The report notes that Ethiopia had been included in the 2025 edition, representing more than 27 million people facing high levels of acute food insecurity in 2024 alongside four other countries and territories, but “no updated estimates were available for 2025.” It attributes the growing data gaps to “a combination of factors, including challenges to obtain authorization to collect or share data, limited funding and a lack of priority for data collection.”
