If there is one thing I hate is to be told that a game has stopped working after a new core is published or after a wide update is presented. To catch those problems early I finally have a FPGA-based system that will test all games and catch regressions.

I am only testing the main titles of each core and it still take several hours to go through the whole list of supported games. This requires a dedicated setup just for this task as we introduce changes pretty much daily

I know it is impossible to catch all problems but this should catch many embarrassing ones like a game not booting up!!

Our Cowboys of Moo Mesa PCB got a couple of pins (at least) disconnected during the schematic extraction work. Using picoROMs and the schematic I was able to identify and repair one connection. But it wasn’t enough. At least one more thing is broken.

It's a shame the FPGA emulator scene is flooded with AI slop, but it won't stop my work. I'm still passionate about boards and chip architectures, because software analysis and measurements have limits. I just want to automate tasks that don't need humans so I can contribute more

This is exactly the scenario that I want to prevent.

I don't even use my mister anymore. Ai slop fatigue. Constant shit being added to mister Dev github and sucked up by update all. Their goal is to mirror mame and not help improve anything. Whats even worse is the youtuber muppets that advertise it. Absolute bell ends.

This is what’s going on in the lab now. Several computers connected to dedicated setups to validate existing work vs hardware and official data sheets at a level of detail we could not afford before. #MiSTerFPGA

Maybe one good thing with the flood of FPGA slop cores reaching a critical point: poser douches are losing interest since they no longer feel competitive (their only interest), and are fucking off from the hobby

It's crazy.. people have been given the most incredible and powerful gift.. someone with no skill or talent, can convert/port a game to another system (imagine if we had that when we were kids!). And what do they do? Get it out as FAST as they can for likes/clout/fame or whatever so someone else doesn't beat them to it. You have this most incredible/powerful thing that levels the playing field between those that can and those that cannot.. and they don't even bother putting in a little extra effort to make sure it's polished and not trash. That's the part that gets me the most hahah. (well, that and the people that tell them their "work" is amazing). Like, come on! You really can't just spend a little MORE time to make it better.. since you completely short-cutted 4-6 years of learning, and 2-3 years of doing the project manually.. what's an extra week or two of prompting and tuning/polishing?💀

The Intel i750 DVI video decoder set-up on Dragon Gun (Data East) has now been emulated youtube.com/watch?v=6WL2gc73… This gives the game the missing FMV backgrounds some bosses use. (This was a very expensive way to do effects that only appear in a handful of places in the game!)

#PortfolioDay I'm José and I'm a Chilean illustrator and graphic designer inspired by the nostalgia of 80s and 90s Japanese anime and video games. My work explores pop culture, science fiction and highlights the strength and charm of female characters.✨

Here's a deep-dive review of #Avermedia's Live Gamer Ultra S. It performed really well and even (sorta) works with MiSTer's Direct Video modes. This is definitely my favorite USB card and second favorite overall. Video and links are here: retrorgb.com/live-gamer-ultr…

We are planning to open orders for a limited number orders for MiSTER Pi 1.6, preorders for MiSTER Pi 1.7 (adds PCIe lanes for display port/other development), GB/GBA cartridge adapters for MiSTER Pi, and MD/NES SNAC adapters for SS1 & MiSTER Pi next week. We are also planning to start seeding 4K HDMI development units of MiSTER Pi to some core developers this month.

#z486_MiSTer 20261006 is out🚀: Windows 95, much-requested scaler improvements, and many newly supported games, including Links 386 Pro, Strike Commander, TFX, Wing Commander Privateer, Armored Fist and more. z486 now performs like a 486DX2-66. github.com/nand2mario/z486_M…
