Replying to @Brosephos
@Brosephos has officially joined the bitch list. He can’t actually respond so he refuses to interact.
It depends entirely what “justified” means for each author.
For Paul, “justified” (present infinitive of δικαιόω, Rom 3:28) is clearly synonymous with “saved” (see Romans 10:5-13).
For James, who uses the present indicative, it clearly means something else.
Really? Because I see this regularly when interacting with Catholics.

Yes. Biblical typology though seeks to align everything with Christ.
Moses is a TYPE of Christ.
David is a TYPE of Christ.
Abraham is a TYPE of Christ.
That is the TYPE.
I’m going to go with the fact that there’s a 40% self deletion rate post transitions says that “regret” is HIGHER than 1%.

Okay, so I believe that the actual issue here can be settled by referring to the footnote (17) which goes back to Stuckenbrook’s entry in Early Jewish and Christian Monotheism (T&T Clark, 2004). He CLEARLY has an axe to grind with Hurtado.

Well, there it is again. @Alex_Ortodoxie is vindicated, and once more, @gavinortlund has gotten a source wrong.
No offense to Gavin, but this has become a pattern. At this point, when he cites a source, we should all check the full context for ourselves. I had a similar back-and-forth with him a few years ago over Shoemaker. I personally had to reach out to Shoemaker himself to settle the dispute.
In his exchange with Alex, Gavin kept appealing to Hurtado while ignoring Alex’s corrections concerning the other scholars he had cited. He doubled down on defending the one scholar he thought still supported his position. Now it’s clear that appeal doesn’t hold up either.
Gavin is wrong about the invocation of the saints, and he’s wrong about the scholarship. He needs to kindly concede the point and move on. Doubling down just makes it look worse.
Boyce’s attempt to embarrass @gavinortlund at this point is childish and pointless and CIRCULAR.
It doesn’t actually answer the question of WHO IS THE ANGEL?

Understanding the background of the use of terms (especially in light of the TWENTY SIX TIMES בְּלִיַּעַל (Belial)
is used in the OT) is important. No one is denying that.

Hey @grok, what Christological heresy do I commit if I refuse to accept Mary as Mother of God?
