Lausanne is the only city in Switzerland with a metro system, opened in 1991🇨🇭 In fact, Lausanne is the smallest city that has a full-fledged, automated rapid transit system (Line M2). Also, it is the steepest fully automated metro line in Europe, with changes of around 12%.

But the story of this island goes beyond its first discovery. Indigenous peoples called Arawak and Kalinago (historically called Carib) were living on that island long before Europeans' arrival. They called this island Louanalao and Hewanorra (which was quite hard to pronounce), which translates as "Island of Iguanas" because of its massive population of Iguanas. Okay, but how did we end up with Saint Lucia? And why was it named after a woman who was living 1200 years before Europeans arrived? It all comes down to Christianity. Lucia of Syracuse was a Roman Christian martyr who was persecuted and killed for refusing to renounce her faith. She is one of the best-known virgin martyrs, and her traditional feast day is on December 13th. And this day is the key reason why the island was named after her. Europeans associated the island's discovery or naming with December 13th, Saint Lucy's feast day. One story links it to the French shipwreck; another suggests that Spanish explorers encountered the island on that date. And that's how a Caribbean island became a unique case in bearing the name of a woman who lived many centuries before.
