1. It's not plot armour... She literally trained the entire season to learn airbending and even Tenzin said it would just "click"... And in that moment it "clicked"... The same way earth bending clicked for Aang after spending the episode learning it
2. That scene was literally a visual representation of her unlocking the avatar state... An avatar connecting to their spiritual side at their lowest is not plot armour
3. "All of a sudden there's a tree of time"?... The same tree that was literally shown all through the season? Plus it was a combination of the tree and harmonic convergence (Another thing that was set up throughout the season)

Korra unlocking airbending the exact second Amon takes her ability to bend is plot armor.
Aang’s spirit casually showing up to fully restore korra's bending after she lost it was plot armor.
Korra got her ass so beat she lost the past lives. All of a sudden from there's tree of time in the spirit world which allows Korra to enter a cosmic state to stop unavaatu. Another plot armor.
In that cosmic state Korra got beat again! From nowhere comes jinora with a bright light to save korra's ass. Do you want more?

You watch scenes like this with a older and experienced brain that has been through shit and you realize that they were doing so many daring things with Korra, even under the heavy restrictions from Nickelodeon.
