Here’s an Apple secret:
Success comes from culture, not technology.
Like many at Apple, I worked for many years under John Brandon, our longtime head of sales. He had his “Top Ten Rules for Success” which I carried around and lived by.
It’s easy to spot someone from Brandon’s team by how they collaborate. I tried to be one of them. I mopped the floor (literally at times), I shared everything I knew without gatekeeping, I always assumed the customer knew their business.
I think about AI the same way. Most AI advice right now is for builders. Almost nobody is helping the marketers, sales engineers, and execs who actually have to put AI in front of customers. That’s the gap I work in.
I left Apple last month after 22 years. After some thinking and a lot of conversations, I’m now doing what I did inside Apple, but for other organizations: AI positioning, helping businesses understand AI, and creating Apple-level presentations and content.

ALT Image: JB Top 10 Rules for Success — John Brandon Let go of the old, focus on future Always tell the truth, bad news sooner than later Highest level of ethics, when in doubt ask Learn to be a good business person, not just a great sales person Everybody sweeps the floor Be professional in your style, speech, and follow through Listen to your customer, they almost always “get it” Create “win-win” relationships with our customers Look out for each other, sharing information is a good thing Don’t take yourself too seriously
We went to every teamlab in Japan, excited to see them bring their immersive experiential art to the USA!

We recently cancelled ADT after terrible service, continual middle of the night alarms, customer service that couldn’t fix problems, and old technology.
Them being acquired by PE so they can be loaded with debt and left to fail feels like a fair outcome.
Today, we are announcing an agreement to acquire ADT.
Home security has the qualities we look for in the businesses we own: an essential service built on specialist expertise and earned trust.
We see an opportunity to build on that foundation for decades, investing in its people and technology to deliver the best outcomes for customers.
Our ambition is to help ADT define the next era of trusted home security.

Good summary from @MiaAI_lab - a Mac Studio is not a great choice for shared AI inference, or for training, or for video generation, mostly due to slow TTFT. That said it is also a Mac, meaning a single dev can use it as a productivity machine and as a content creation machine. It’s a really really really good AI developer station.
But most of those devs want portability, so a MacBook Pro with 128GB scratches most of those itches.
This is why Apple is rumored to be skipping M6 Pro and Max chips entirely and going to M7 Pro, Max, and Ultra, so they can solve prefill speeds.
I'd take 4x DGX Sparks over M5U 512 GB any day! The system is so mature right now, and works so well, it will take YEARS for the Mac to get this good, if ever.
You can't get with one Mac the versatility you have with 4 Sparks. You just can't. I can decide to run 2 models per 2 Sparks, or 1 model on all 4 Sparks, or 1 model on one Spark and another model on 3 Sparks.
What about diffusion models? Image and video generation. How will that work if you run image gen on your Mac but also want to use an LLM?
The versatility of the DGX Sparks is insane!
Also, CUDA.
I believe we are going to see a great Unwebbening, a migration of web apps back to native due to better UI, user experience, access to on-device AI tools, and also the ease of creating native apps with AI.
Toolkits like this one, bringing smart AI features to native Swift apps on Apple platforms, will help that process.
Language models can do a lot, but they're only a small part of what machine learning can do.
Today we're introducing two new Swift packages for speech and decisions, with open models from 🤗 Hub that run on device:

I’m about to go FULL OMARCHY on this gold 12” Intel MacBook I just got from eBay! Possibly my favorite form factor of MacBook ever!
🚀🚀🚀
Hot take: new MacBook Pro with XDR looks good! I expected much worse on pricing. Much better display for +$400 not bad when you’re already in for $7,800! I personally don’t care about touch and I think it’s a dumb feature. But the display specs beyond touch are worth $400.
Also the normal m5 laptop prices are untouched, so that’s good!
I’d get the 4TB storage, 128GB memory with nano-texture if you’re an AI pro.
At a small @DeanOrnishMD event:
“I think of modern medicine as a bunch of doctors around a sink with a leak and they are just constantly mopping up the water. Why don’t we stop the leak?”
Great visit and tour of @snibbe ‘s new work at his residency at Marin Headlands. Scott does modern interpretations of ancient Buddhist traditional art.
We really enjoyed Scott’s latest book and went on one of his retreats a couple of years ago.
