actually the national anthem has no relation to sports whatsoever and there’s no reason to play it before every game

3 things to understand about the 3 new women’s accusations about Josh Jacobs:
1) they went to police. not lawyers, not media. there was literally nothing for them to “gain” by going to police, apart from the desire to help the fourth victim
x dot com the everything app has been pretty good at wrapping users in bubbles of algo-tuned videos they’ll like lately, but the replies to posts like this just show how disgusting a lot of the userbase still is
i said to @DetroitOnLion that around a year ago, i looked into why the lions’ drop from a great offense to a pretty good one felt so much steeper than the yards/points implied, and i’d like to do a follow-up for petzing
then i saw that i filed both that piece & this one on 10/30

ALT The numbers are, well, confusing: The Lions are No. 2 in scoring offense, but ninth in offensive DVOA. They’re second in first-down rate, per FTN Fantasy, but 17th in third-down conversion percentage. As Pride of Detroit senior producer Jeremy Reisman keeps pulling his hair out about, the Lions have the third-highest rushing success rate, but also third-highest stuffed rate. So let’s take a step back, and grade Petzing by how his unit compares in key performance areas to each of the past two seasons. Drive Effectiveness: A-

@tyschalter gives a midseason report card for Drew Petzing, comparing his offense to both the Lions' 2025 and 2024 seasons.

yeah man 40 years of colleges turning into federally subsidized hedge funds will do that
I am speechless. Thomas Aquinas College just dropped a study on the rigor of the new SAT.
It compares the 1980/87 test with 2026. The findings should terrify every parent and teacher...
Vocabulary has collapsed.
Old SAT: 70.6% of questions tested vocab.
New SAT: 15%.
The old test forced students to know a wide range of words through analogies, antonyms, and sentence completions. The new test abandoned that. Most vocab questions now just ask students to fill in one blank from context.
Reading passages also got radically shorter (average ~97 words vs 300–340).
The new test uses short expository passages and hands you the necessary background knowledge inside the text. The older tests leaned much more heavily on argumentative and persuasive writing, assumed far more historical, scientific, and cultural knowledge, and penalized students who lacked it.
This is a redefinition of what "college readiness" means.
If you believe that kids should develop rigorous vocabulary, be capable of sustained reading, and possess background knowledge, I have bad news for you. The SAT no longer measures these.
If you want a future where children can actually read difficult texts and construct complex arguments, the SAT must be replaced now.
This cannot go on.

No different than Americans who know what’s happening is wrong on every level, but are afraid to say so publicly because we’ve built a media-sphere that rewards silence over factuality
“I no longer feel proud to be Israeli… We are occupiers, yes… wait, i thought we were on commercial break!”
Amazing — Israeli actress Chelli Goldenberg accidentally tells the truth when she doesn’t realize she’s live on the air. (H/T @MintPressNews)

*This* is how you come into Michigan as an outsider and cover what's actually happening on the ground.
Going where other folks aren't, having the generational conversations, and yes we absolutely do need that lighthouse.
Good read.
My long strange trip from Montana to Youngstown to the Upper Peninsula. We shall encounter UAW workers, AOC, bigots, El-Sayed, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, and a quite amazing Ojibway state house candidate who runs a lighthouse. @RollingStone. Free link. rollingstone.com/politics/po…

If you are an hourly employee operating someone else's equipment, maybe. If you own your own, it's not hard to command $100 an hour or more depending on the equipment.
