โ๏ธ Could a quantum computer steal your Bitcoin?
#Quantum computing could eventually challenge the cryptography that protects our digital assets.
But what exactly is at risk?
And should crypto users be worried?
In Episode 1 of my Quantum Threat series, we break down:
๐น How Shor's algorithm threatens digital signatures.
๐น What Grover's algorithm means for hash functions.
๐น Why STARK proofs have a promising post-quantum security profile.
๐น Why the industry needs to prepare before the threat becomes practical.
No panic. Just the facts you need to understand what's coming.

Post-quantum security is becoming a real design concern for onchain systems.
We're glad to support @Starknet and @StarkWareLtd on an open challenge advancing post-quantum signature verification, open to people and AI agents alike ๐
Quantum-safe transactions, priced in cents.
In an open challenge, Falcon-512 verification reached ~$0.023 per transaction.
Participants and their AI agents set 434 records in the challenge from @StarknetFndn and @StarkWareLtd, in collaboration with @OpenZeppelin.

Quantum computing is advancing, AI is accelerating everything.
Crypto can't afford to wait.
That's why we're exploring Starknet as an independent L1: to take full control of our security and become post-quantum secure on our own timeline.

You can't aim for "mostly quantum-resistant".
The goal can and must be full quantum resistance.

Few hours left to vote: should we dedicate more resources to exploring Starknet becoming an independent L1?
98.7% are in favor so far.
This could be a major step for Starknetโs future, and we need our communityโs input to guide what comes next ๐

A large enough quantum computer could break the ECDSA signatures securing many blockchains today.
@StarkWareLtd's STARK proofs take another path: they rely only on hash functions.
On @Starknet we're pushing two fronts: faster proofs and cheaper post-quantum signatures. ๐งต

Troves now supports privacy end to end with shadow accounts. Shielded tokens can earn yield in Troves vaults while staying private, with no onchain link back to your main wallet.
How it works:
1. Shield funds in Ready, Xverse or Bramble. That balance sits in Starknetโs STRK20 privacy pool.
2. Turn on Private mode in Troves. Your wallet derives a commitment for Troves, and each vault gets its own shadow account computed from that commitment and the vaultโs ID. Separate vaults use separate addresses, unlinked to each other and to your wallet.
3. Deposit. One transaction moves funds from the privacy pool to the vaultโs shadow account and deposits them. Your wallet builds the proof.
4. Withdraw. Ekubo LP vaults return funds to your shielded balance in one step. Hyper xSTRK, the Boosted vaults and the Evergreen vaults redeem asynchronously: request the withdrawal, then collect it back to your shielded balance once it settles, typically within 1-2 hours.
Available in private mode:
> All active Ekubo LP vaults, including STRK/USDC, STRK/ETH and the strkBTC pairs
> Hyper xSTRK
> WBTC Boosted and USDC Boosted
> The Evergreen vaults

1/ Bitcoin passes 7 of our 8 cryptographic-agility checks.
So why does it still face one of the hardest post-quantum migrations?
Because upgrading the network's cryptography is one thing. Moving everyone's BTC is another ๐งต

On one hand, we have Vitalik openly talking about STRKs, on the other, @EliBenSasson addressing the quantum threat and highlighting just how far ahead Starknet is on that front.
I simply refuse to accept the possibility that Starknet fails as a chain. Iโm fully prepared to go down with the ship on this bet.
Ultimately, precompiles and EVM are both the wrong place to put most cryptography support into Ethereum. The reason is that precompiles and EVM both operate on data that has to be included into the ethereum chain somehow, which realistically means included in a block as calldata. That space is limited - even with PeerDAS and blocks-in-blobs, there's a practical cap of ~8 MB/s before it starts getting uncomfortable.
Remember: it's not a blockchain. It's a cryptographic world computer. Any data/computation that does not need to be in the "main thread" of data/execution should not be put into the main thread.
Instead, the correct solution is... EIP-8288 maximalism.
If you have any heavy computation that's self-contained, compute it and STARK it client-side (this is quickly getting faster and faster, even on phones), and push the STARK through the EIP-8288 recursive aggregation mechanism. The chain sees the fact that the computation was done and what the result is; it never needs to see the actual data and computation.
This way everyone can use whatever cryptography they want, the Ethereum chain can be lean, and we never need to add more precompiles again.
