A nuclear state cannot be casually coerced. That single fact, more than any diplomatic skill, is what lets Islamabad now stand between Tehran and Washington — one of which just bombed the other — without being assumed to act under duress.

Assurances from Kabul haven't changed anything on the ground. Pakistan's condition is verification: arrests of TTP and BLA commanders, closed camps, handovers, third-party monitoring. My latest for @thenews_intl @geonews_english

Security Analyst Muhammad Umar says progress between Iran and Oman on technical shipping arrangements through the Strait of Hormuz should not be confused with negotiations to end the wider conflict. He says Iran’s recognition of the Islamabad MOU reflects Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, while Islamabad continues working to keep dialogue alive and bring Washington and Tehran back to meaningful negotiations.

It is time to abolish the personal income tax.
Salaried Pakistanis paid Rs633 billion last year, up from Rs585 billion, more than any other category and well ahead of exporters at Rs174 billion. Wholesale and retail trade is close to a fifth of the economy and four per cent of the tax take; of an estimated 3.5 million retailers, roughly 300,000 filed. Agriculture is another fifth of GDP and under one per cent of revenue. More than two in five of those who do file declare no taxable income at all.

UFC Freedom 250 is facing a chaotic weather setup on the White House South Lawn, with a 60% chance of thunderstorms, heavy downpours, and wind gusts up to 34 mph threatening to delay the outdoor fights. On top of the storm risk, brutal D.C. humidity is driving a triple-digit heat index alongside massive swarms of mosquitos and gnats that fighters will have to battle inside the cage. While the venue’s massive 92-foot overhang will keep the octagon dry, a single lightning strike within eight miles will trigger an automatic 30-minute freeze on the entire event.

A prolonged closure or insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz would hit Pakistan in multiple ways, including higher oil and LNG costs, pressure on foreign exchange reserves, a weaker rupee, rising food and fertilizer prices. For Pakistan, it would not just be an energy crisis, but a balance-of-payments, inflation and political challenge occurring simultaneously: Muhammad Umar, US-based security analyst
