Come jump with us on August 2nd and/or tell your friends and family about our exciting fundraiser. I'm scared of heights but figured if Dalton could go through everything he went through I could get over my fears and jump out of a plane for him. 💚 secure.givelively.org/donate…
Our boy Dalton always wanted to skydive but never got the chance ... so we turned it into a fundraiser to help kids like him. 💚 Join us @SkydiveSuffolk on Aug 2. Step out of your comfort zone (and of a plane) and help us fund pediatric cancer research. secure.givelively.org/donate…

Ty Jerome started every game for the only number one seed in history to lose to a number sixteen. Eleven months later he was an all tournament pick on the national champion. Tonight he scored 45 points for the Memphis Grizzlies. He is from New Rochelle, New York, and he went to Iona Preparatory School there. Harvard recruited him. So did Temple and Davidson. Tony Bennett found him by accident. The Virginia coach was in a gym scouting somebody else. His father Mark put a basketball in his crib. By two he was dribbling two of them at once in Washington Heights. At eight he was playing for the Riverside Hawks against kids two years older, and the family drove all over the city for it. Rucker Park, Dyckman, Coney Island. He was playing against Donovan Mitchell in those tournaments. One weekend he played five baseball games and six basketball tournaments. Mark had played a little at Lafayette and he coached his son hard, so that nobody could say he had a favorite. "I screamed and yelled at him probably too much." Now the night everybody remembers. March 2018. Virginia had gone 31 and 2. The best team in the country, the number one overall seed, and Jerome a sophomore starter. UMBC beat them 74 to 54. A sixteen seed had never beaten a one seed. Not once, in the entire history of the tournament. Here is the part worth knowing. Jerome stayed on the floor until the final whistle, and then he went and sat down in front of the reporters. Somebody asked him whether he was aware that a sixteen had never won before. "I think everyone's aware of that. Thanks for bringing that up again." His father had already left the building. Here is how Mark describes the walk back to the hotel. "Longest walk of my life." "Just heartbreak and pain." "There was no fixing that night." Mark says his son was alright again inside a week. Mark himself needed a long talk with the head coach. Andscape is where the family laid all of that out. The next season Jerome started all 37 games. Virginia won the national championship and he made the all tournament team. That summer he turned up at the NBA Summer League in a shirt with the UMBC logo on it and Virginia printed over the top. He was a top fifty recruit out of high school, not a nobody, and he is in his eighth NBA season. One enormous night in October is one night. But he was on the floor for the worst loss in the history of college basketball, and he was on the floor eleven months later when they won the whole thing. And tonight he made seventeen of twenty five.

I reread this every year. I cry like a baby every year. Todd Beamer died a father, husband, and hero. Todd: Hello… Operator… listen to me. I can’t speak very loud. This is an emergency. I’m a passenger on a United flight to San Francisco. Our plane has been hijacked. Lisa: I understand. Can they see you? Todd: No. There are three that we know of. They have knives — razor knives, like box cutters. Someone announced from the cockpit there was a bomb. It sounded fake. Lisa: Your name?Todd: Todd Beamer. United Flight 93.Todd: They killed one passenger in first class. They forced most of us back. Fourteen of us here. Five flight attendants. The guy with the bomb ordered us to sit on the floor. Lisa: Are you okay? Todd: We’re going down… wait. No. We’re leveling off. We changed directions. We’re flying east again. Todd: A guy named Jeremy called his wife. She told him two planes hit the World Trade Center. Lisa, is that true? Lisa: I have to tell you the truth. It’s very bad. Both towers are gone. A third plane hit the Pentagon. Our country is under attack. I’m afraid your plane may be part of their plan. Todd: Oh God. Lisa, will you do something for me? Call my wife and my kids. Promise me you’ll call. Lisa: I promise. Todd: Our home number is… You have the same name as my wife. Lisa. We’ve been married ten years. She’s pregnant with our third child. Tell her I love her. I’ll always love her. We have two boys — David, he’s 3, and Andrew, he’s 1. Tell them their daddy loves them and he is so proud of them. The baby is due January 12th. I saw an ultrasound. We still don’t know if it’s a girl or a boy. Lisa: I’ll tell them. I promise, Todd.(Lisa patches in the FBI.) Agent: Todd, your plane is on a course for Washington. Best guess is the White House or the Capitol. Todd: I understand. I’ll be back. Todd: Everyone knows this isn’t a normal hijacking. We have decided we will not be pawns in their plot. Lisa: What are you going to do? Todd: Four of us are going to rush the one with the bomb. Then the cockpit. A stewardess is getting boiling water. We’ll take them out. Todd: Would you pray with me?They pray the Lord’s Prayer. Then: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. Todd: God help me. Jesus help me.Are you guys ready? Let’s Roll.

Early results suggest this approach could help across several difficult-to-treat cancers, including Ewing sarcoma. Thanks to support from the Better Ewing Sarcoma Treatment (BEST) Grant, progress like this is possible. 💚 Retweet to spread the word. ✨

July is Sarcoma Awareness Month. Today we honor Dalton Fox. I never had the opportunity to meet him, but his memories as related to me from his parents, have touched my life. Here are a few of the memories about this brave, courageous and wise young man. Dalton’s smile and sense of humor were infectious. Even while fighting cancer, Dalton brightened every room he walked into. When the nurses asked him if he needed anything else, D would quickly reply, “20 bucks?” Dalton loved animals, especially lemurs and even had a lemur picture on "Larry," his prosthetic leg. When kids asked him what happened to his missing left leg, Dalton would smile and say “shark attack.” He even wanted to get a pedicure and see if he got half off. Baseball, fishing, swimming, watching Marvel movies, and sled hockey were some of our D’s favorite activities. Dalton was a determined individual. He was selected as a safety patrol member and was scheduled to man his post on the first day of 5th grade. He told his mom on the day before his amputation, that he was going to attend the first day of school as a safety patrol. His mom wasn't sure if he realized he would be missing a leg. Dalton told us he was going to be there anyway, leg or no leg...and five days after being released from the hospital...he was there. Ewing Sarcoma stole Dalton shortly before the end of 6th grade; he was 12 years-old. The day before Dalton died, his mom and dad promised him that they would keep fighting Ewing Sarcoma to help kids like him. Will and Jen Fox founded D-Feet Cancer The Dalton Fox foundation (dfeetcancer.org) to raise awareness of this horrible disease and funds to find better treatments and someday a cure. 100% of donations and all net event proceeds flow directly to Ewing Sarcoma research in honor of Dalton and all who have fought and will fight this disease. #ChildhoodCancer #Sarcoma

Sarcoma is a type of cancer that begins in bone or in the soft tissues of the body, including cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, fibrous tissue, or other connective or supportive tissue. Different types of sarcoma are based on where the cancer forms. For example, osteosarcoma forms in bone, liposarcoma forms in fat, and rhabdomyosarcoma forms in muscle. Treatment and prognosis depend on the type and grade of the cancer (how abnormal the cancer cells look under a microscope and how quickly the cancer is likely to grow and spread). Sarcoma occurs in both adults and children. #ChildhoodCancer
