Today, on International Women’s Day, we launch our Stamp Out Sexism campaign. We know that two thirds of women working in surgery have reported being the target of sexual harassment and 91 per cent of women doctors have experienced sexism. Experiencing sexual misconduct can have a serious impact on mental health. Today, we are calling for an end to sexism in medicine. From snide comments about childcare, to being physically groped in the operating room, incidents like these are happening every day in healthcare organisations across the country. We have been asking you to send us your photos, bearing our hashtag. This may seem such a small act but a little bit goes a long way. Together we can create a momentum, make a difference and #StampOutSexism for good. @ScrubSurvivors @RCSnews #stampoutsexism #survivinginscrubs #womeninsurgery #GenderBiasInHealthcare #FeminismInHealthcare #GenderEquality #HealthcareForAll #WomensHealth #HealthcareDiscrimination #GenderInequality #Healthequity #MedicalSexism #IWD2024 #InspireInclusion

30-40% of the variability in team morale, performance & critical organisational behaviours can be explained by what leaders do. three action areas for leaders who want to create team environments where people thrive & excel: 1) Revitalising: help people feel energised & motivated by connecting to purpose, meaning & what matters to them 2) Repairing: restore wellbeing & address human (not business) problems 3) Refocusing: align team members on key priorities. And, as leaders, we can't revitalise, repair & refocus others unless we do it to ourselves first: hbr.org/2023/07/3-ways-to-re… By @AmyCEdmondson & @drtcp

In the age of big data, trusting our intuition for decision making is often poorly regarded. Yet studies show that pairing gut feelings with analytical thinking helps us make better, faster, more accurate decisions. How to stop overthinking & trust your gut feelings: 1) Distinguish gut feeling from fear 2) Start by making minor decisions 3) Test out different choices 4) Try the "snap judgment test" 5) Fall back on your values hbr.org/2022/03/how-to-stop-… By @MelodyWilding. Most large conferences & "all staff" days treat their audience as "consumers" to be talked at when they have a room full of potential co-creators with amazing talents and gifts. Is it possible to design large gatherings in a more relational way? How can we light candles rather than fill buckets? @pforti suggests 5 ways: 1) Small sessions lead by participants 2) Create fractal groups 3) Slow down the rhythm of the meeting 4) Assign people to be connectors 5) Design for the non-default medium.com/together-institut…. One model I use constantly is the "hierarchy of capabilities" from the book "Humanocracy: Creating organizations as amazing as the people inside them". As leaders we can expect people to follow the rules, be diligent in their work & to have expertise. But if we want people to take initiative, be creative & be willing to take risks, we have to create the conditions where they "want to" do these things. If leaders could support people to move up this pyramid, we could eliminate half the compliance load in a typical organisation. A summary from @MarcellaBremer: leadershipandchangemagazine.…

I'm preparing for a talk on "leading change across boundaries" next week. I'm stressing the point that when we're leading change across silos & systems, we can't just be programme managers, we have to be systems convenors: bringing people together with shared purpose. Collaboration across boundaries is critical for change in public service but it often fails. Is that because we've been working with a model of "collaboration in uniformity" rather than "collaboration in unity"? Effective collaboration is not about homogenising/eliminating differences, but finding higher order commonalities & working with those: medium.com/centre-for-public… By @theasnow.
