Congratulations to Vickie Van Etta, Lake City VA Medical Center's DAISY Award Winner for October! When one Veteran arrived for surgery, they carried more than preoperative nerves. Past experiences had left them overwhelmed with anxiety and uncertainty. But from the moment Vickie welcomed them that morning, her calm demeanor, reassuring words, and genuine compassion began to ease those fears. The Veteran shared that Vickie's kindness and confidence in the care team helped transform what could have been a frightening experience into an exceptional one. Her warm smile, respectful care, and unwavering support before and after surgery not only provided comfort in the moment but also helped restore the Veteran's confidence in VA health care. After 31 years of serving Veterans, Vickie continues to demonstrate the compassion, dignity, and excellence that define nursing at its very best.💙

DeMarlo Kelly, a U.S. Army Veteran, served for 3 years. DeMarlo shares his experience with the VA's Whole Health Program. DeMarlo credits the VA Whole Health Program for helping him to find a way to step outside of his box, to be his old self again. Whole Health centers around what matters to you, not what is the matter with you. This means your health team will get to know you as a person, before working with you to develop a personalized health plan based on your values, needs, and goals. Congratulations to our August DAISY Award Honoree, Bill! During one of the most difficult moments for a Veteran and his family, Bill delivered extraordinary compassion, advocacy, and clinical excellence. He listened, stayed present, recognized when something was wrong, and acted quickly, ultimately ensuring the Veteran received critical care when he needed it most. Bill not only cared for the patient, but also supported his spouse, offering comfort during hours of uncertainty. His kindness, vigilance, and dedication truly reflect the heart of nursing. Thank you, Bill, for making a profound difference. 💛 #DAISYAward #VAExcellence
