Who was it that said United are a commercial club?
Avram Glazer has told an audience of financiers that sports teams at Manchester Unitedโs level are not dependent on success on the pitch for commercial power.
Unitedโs co-owner was making a rare speaking appearance at Deutsche Bankโs inaugural Sports Investment Conference in London. Sources with knowledge of the event โ talking anonymously to protect relationships โ said he argued his clubโs value is incubated from the effects of sporting variance in the same way that the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys still stand out as major global brands.
Glazer was asked by an audience member about the correlation between results on the pitch and a clubโs commercial pull. His response bears similarity to the feedback Ed Woodward, Unitedโs former executive vice-chairman, gave during an investor call in May 2018.
Woodward was asked by a shareholder if the improved performance in the Premier League, when Mourinho raised the side from sixth to runners-up, had been a factor in another set of record financial accounts, with United making ยฃ590million in annual revenue. Woodward replied: โPlaying performance doesnโt really have a meaningful impact on what we can do on the commercial side of the business.โ

City fans have been superb at all matches this season & have stuck together in difficult circumstances. And if people don't get our sense of humour, so what? Players may make mistakes but there's a bigger picture overall surely - so let's keep backing the players - all of them.

The Overlap debate just proved who the real glory hunters are. Harris(the Manchester United fan) thought Luke(the Manchester City fan) was mad for saying he couldnโt care less about the noise. Why? Because he actually goes to the games and enjoy his team play football. Is that not the whole point of being a fan?
If you think someone supporting their club is pointless once they get relegated then you need to take a good look at yourself.
Maybe you are the real glory hunter.

Many City fans seem to like Borson when he offers hope and hate him when he delivers something sceptical of City's chances.
Borson is hedging, offering both sides because that keeps him in the game. He's not speaking as a City fan ever, he's speaking as a man who has landed lucrative gig and wants to keep it and there's nothing wrong with that. No need for the vitriol towards him. City fans need to stop expecting him to be a City fan in these matters.
City fans also need to be aware that he's just one opinion and other opinions are available that are just as credible and compelling as his.
He's been inconsistent and wrong sometimes, that he's been hedging for a long time means he can always find something he's said that contradicts when he was wrong.
I ignore most of what he says. Not because I don't want the truth as he sees it but because I know his arguments and I'm persuaded by other arguments and my own thinking and I've not been lazy in understanding the situation. I also have access to the same information he has, we all do.
That he treats any challenge to what he's saying with contempt is annoying but not everyone responding and disagreeing is a knuckle dragger and he's no sort of gatekeeper to these subjects. He's amplified by some media that needs to keep some narratives intact and he usually obliges.
He's oblivious to arguments about City's leverage and strategy of using that leverage for example. This is one example of how limited his takes and intuitions often are.
Read or don't read him, it's up to you but there's no need to abuse him or treat him as an Oracle.

This United fan may have just let the cat out of the bag. If you genuinely think there's no point going to watch your team when they have little chance of success, then that's pretty much the definition of a glory hunter.
For most football fans, supporting their club isn't conditional on trophies, titles or survival. They turn up regardless.
