Congratulations to Ryan Diodati on his appointment as Hamilton’s next Chief of Police. This is a role with a profound impact on our city, and Ryan brings decades of experience and a deep understanding of the Hamilton community. We wish him every success as he leads the service and works with residents and community partners to keep Hamilton safe and strong. A trusted police service is essential to a thriving community. That trust is built through the daily work of officers and staff, through respect for the people they serve, and through genuine collaboration with community organizations, local leaders and residents. Their commitment deserves our recognition and support. Chief Frank Bergen, on behalf of Joseph Mancinelli and all of us at @LiUNACanada, we thank you for your years of service, leadership and friendship. You have given so much to Hamilton and to the members of the service. Our community is grateful for your dedication and the impact you have made and we wish you and your family the very best in your retirement. To every member of the @HamiltonPolice, thank you. LiUNA is proud to stand with you.

40 years of impact, voice and vision! Proud to stand with @IntervalHamOnt as we celebrate the 40th Anniversary Ruby Gala and support the vital work they do for women and families in our community. Four decades of leadership, care and advocacy remind us what’s possible when a community comes together. Let’s keep working toward a future where every woman can live free from violence, with the safety, dignity and support she deserves. That means teaching respect, building a culture where people speak up as upstanders, and mentoring the next generation to create healthier, safer communities. Last night in my remarks, I shared a goal for Victoria and Friends Emergency Shelter, and I’m going to need your help to get us there, for the women finding their voice, for those still looking for safety, and for the women we’ve lost to violence. Let’s do this together.

Municipal elections are over. The hard work of delivering for our cities is not. LiUNA members show up in every season to build the roads, homes, transit and infrastructure our communities depend on. Elected leaders must match that commitment with action by working together to cut red tape, get projects moving, create good jobs and make decisions that put communities first. That work demands collaboration. City hall, labour, industry and community partners must work together to turn commitments into results and build cities where people can live, work and thrive. The public has placed its trust in you. Now it is time to deliver. Let’s keep building.

Congratulations to everyone elected in the 2026 Municipal Elections and to every candidate who put their name forward. Public service is demanding work. It takes courage to step into the arena, put your ideas before the public and accept the responsibility of serving your community. To the campaign teams and volunteers who gave their time, energy and heart to this election, thank you. Your work helped bring people into public life and strengthened the communities you care about. Tomorrow, the work begins. The people who elected you expect their leaders to listen, work together and deliver results. LiUNA is ready to work with elected officials across the province, across parties and across communities, to build stronger cities and improve the lives of the people who call them home! Let’s build!

As polls begin to close, I want to thank the candidates across all 444 of Ontario’s municipalities for their willingness to step up and serve the public. Our government is ready to work with everyone who is elected tonight on the issues that matter most to Ontario families: making life more affordable, keeping communities safe, delivering high-quality public services and protecting workers from tariffs and economic uncertainty.

A beautiful evening celebrating the CIBPA Hamilton-Halton Excellence Awards alongside remarkable leaders who contribute so much to our community and help shape its future. I was humbled to receive the Professional Excellence Award and accept it with gratitude on behalf of the LiUNA members and families we proudly represent, our community partners, and the generations of Italian Canadians who came before us. They arrived with little and built so much, not only for our families, but for the communities we all call home. Carrying their legacy forward is both an honour and a responsibility, to leave our communities stronger than we found them, while remaining proud of the Italian roots that helped shape who we are, something my parents instilled in us at a very young age. Congratulations to my fellow recipients: Dennis Concordia, Lidio Mancini, Joshua Santucci and Marisa Mariella. It was an honour to be recognized alongside you. Thank you, Charlie Agro and congratulations to Sergio Leuzzi, President of CIBPA Hamilton-Halton for your leadership, and everyone who helped make the evening such a meaningful celebration of excellence, community and Italian heritage. Sempre Avanti

Ward 3 deserves a councillor focused on the issues facing our city, not one chasing political points with foreign politics, inflaming hate and division while Hamilton’s needs demand attention. That’s a failure of priorities. It is a failure of leadership. Shame on @NrinderWard3. Ward 3, the choice is clear. Get out and vote for @AndrewCSelman and let’s build a safe, more connected and resilient Hamilton for all.

Yesterday, we broke ground on The Benjamin, a new 58-storey rental community in the heart of Toronto’s Entertainment District. This LiUNA Pension Fund of Central and Eastern Canada project, developed with Fengate Asset Management, the Hi-Rise Group and SG will bring 528 new rental homes to the city, including 10 affordable units. It will also preserve the historic Benjamin Brown building, carrying an important piece of Toronto’s architectural heritage into the future. This is what long-term investment can do: create good union jobs, add much-needed homes and help build vibrant communities for generations to come. I’m proud to see LiUNA’s legacy of building and investing in the places our members call home continue in downtown Toronto. Congratulations to our entire team!

The tragedy at CFB Wainwright is a devastating loss for Canada’s military community. My thoughts are with the families grieving, those injured, and the members of the Canadian Armed Forces and first responders supporting them. The impact of this tragedy will be felt far beyond the base. Behind every uniform is a person, a family and a community bound by service. We honour those who lost their lives and stand with their loved ones, fellow service members and everyone affected. The courage and commitment of those who serve deserve our deepest respect and unwavering support.
LiUNA stands with Canada’s Armed Forces and all impacted by the devastating incident at CFB Wainwright.
