Excited to be part of this! Please come if you’re in London and we’ll excavate some early web design lore.
We live in an incredible era. Every day something launches that looks wicked, and I feel like I’m constantly playing catch up just to keep up.
In a weird way, all of this has got me looking back at the earlier days of the internet, and wondering which lessons from that era still feel timeless.
That’s the idea behind Internet Icons at @meetgranola, a new event series celebrating the pioneers whose work still shapes the internet today.
First up in London 🇬🇧
- @EbenUpton, co-founder & CEO @Raspberry_Pi, the affordable little computer that got millions of kids (and plenty of grown-ups) tinkering, coding and building.
- Julia Whitney, who led design for the original BBC iPlayer during her eleven years at the BBC, as people’s media habits shifted from radio and TV to online, then mobile.
- @veen, co-founder & CEO of Typekit. Hard to imagine now, but websites used to be stuck with the same handful of fonts. Typekit changed that, and it’s part of the reason the web stopped looking so uniform and people could bring some individuality to their corner of it.
It feels like we are heading toward a future of super powerful, totally disposable, completely personalized tools.
I started feeling this way after building a cool visualization tool—here's what I learned along the way... 🧵
And here's the tool I built with Claude. Try it out!

Every innovation wave comes with a familiar prediction: “venture is dead,” or now "irrelevant".
Who needs VC when one person can build a $1 billion unicorn?
I believe the opposite: AI will save venture and restore value to the entire startup economy.

We’ve had over 200 students pass through this program, and I’m always impressed with their values and thoughtfulness. If you know a great college student, please send them our way!
In our summer fellowship program, True Fellows aren't fetching coffee and assisting. They learn alongside founders of True Portfolio companies and contribute in a real way to companies fighting climate change, building on the blockchain & more. Apply now: trueventures.com/true-platfo…

20 years ago today, we threw a party at SxSW on a rooftop in Austin to announce the launch of a new design agency we called Adaptive Path. I’m grateful for all the work we did, the influence we had, and the relationships we forged in those decades.
