a highlight of early supernatural to me was how much more real and impactful the side characters felt. bela, gordon, jo, etc, had a clear backstory and arc, unlike the late seasons where a lot of the time it felt like they just twisted the characters depending on the storyline

also they weren't scared to kill them off. as much as i complain about wanting to see more of a character, ultimately it just felt tacky whenever they did resurrections in the later seasons and made it feel like the show had no stakes whatsoever
