It's hard to get people to pour themselves into what might just be a small business. But there are lots of businesses making $2 million, $5 million, or $10 million a year. Not Instagrammable, but nothing to sneeze at.
Rush hour in Phnom Penh, 2017, and a silver Rolls-Royce Phantom comes straight at me. About $528K in the US, and with Cambodia's import taxes (up to 130%), probably closer to $1.2M here. It had right of way. It usually does.

Why build high-energy, temperature-controlled insect farms in cold places, staffed by robots? Insects do best in ambient temperatures with local labor. It made no sense. But the robots were the sexy play.

You're "settling" for a $5 million a year business? But what gets you to a million won't get you to 10 or 100. A million is you. Ten is delegation. A hundred is systems.
Everybody has opinions. What if you could get paid for yours? Real equity if your advice turns into real value. And if you say you told them so, it's on the record. No proof, no credit.

Elon to the then-CEO of Twitter: "What have you gotten done this week?" God, I love that. Everyone's excited at the conference. Then they go home, and you're doing 98% of the work. So why are we splitting this 50/50?

Why would the Celtics trade Jaylen Brown for peanuts? My favorite conspiracy: private equity. They care about making money. Period. That's literally their business. It's just that when it gets into everything, it all gets kind of shitty.

When padel blew up, I said it was the dumbest thing ever. People spending tons of money on courts, here in Mexico. Now look at the consolidation. It was way overblown. I'd put my name on calls like that, and not just in a tweet.

I'm so tired of people posturing and taking credit for shit they had nothing to do with. "We won an award at this pitch contest." Cool. Have you built anything, though?

If I give everything I have and it's only 35% of the value, I don't deserve 50. I'd rather have 35% of something awesome than 50% of zero. Early equity fights are so stupid. Let's build the thing first.

Psychopaths often seem very attractive to work with. They're smart, and they know how to play the game. But they demand more than they put in, own no failure, and want to control everything. If it wasn't their idea, it's a shitty idea.

Phnom Penh airport, 2017: a Rolls-Royce Phantom at the kerb, and me next to it on a bicycle. Around $528K in the US, and probably closer to $1.2M in Cambodia once the import taxes (up to 130%) go on. I ride a bicycle. The HUD took note.

Diamond Island, Phnom Penh, 2016: two Lamborghini Aventadors in eight seconds, spotted from a bicycle. The Aventador ended in 2022, but its successor starts around $669K in the US, so with up to 130% in import taxes, probably $1.5M each here. Cambodia was building fast.

I played varsity quarterback as a freshman because the upperclassman couldn't take a hit. I could. My favorite tape from that year: I stepped into a deep ball and got laid the fuck out, helmet under the chin. That's how I was raised.

A lot of us want to build outside the system, and right now it feels like a gym with 20 guys shooting around and nobody running. Somebody has to say: you got five, I got five, turn on the scoreboard. That's SovereignHub.

Years ago I bought into the Cambodian Basketball League and took over a team of all local Khmer guys. I brought in two Americans, a point guard and a big man, to round it out. We won the championship in 2015.

Jerry Jones won three Super Bowls in the 90s, in large part thanks to Jimmy Johnson, and the Cowboys haven't been back since. He runs that team the way most VCs run a portfolio: sure that nothing works without him.

Everybody knows Michael Jordan. My favorite on those Bulls teams was Dennis Rodman, who could go a whole game without a shot because his job was rebounds, defense, and loose balls. That's the role people overlook in business. There was only one Rodman.

Phnom Penh, 2016, on a bicycle, tucked in behind a Rolls-Royce Phantom. It starts around $528K in the US, and Cambodia's import taxes can add up to 130% on top, so here it's probably closer to $1.2M. The frontier rewards the people who show up, even on a bicycle.

A biological attack is planned for Saturday 600 million pounds of sugar laced with synthetic chemicals will enter the bodies of our children. Wreaking metabolic havoc, injuring vascular architecture, acidifying oral lining, releasing bacterial toxins, and blunting neural reward pathways. Instructing that gluttonous consumption of poison is celebratory.
