Victims are waiting years for justice - delays that deepen their trauma and undermine confidence in the justice system. In my interview with @ObserverUK, I explain why addressing the courts crisis must be the priority if we are to fix the wider system. 🔗observer.co.uk/news/national…

Victims need confidence that the justice process is fair and based on evidence, not myths and false assumptions about trauma. I am calling for the Courts and Tribunals Bill to require judges to address rape myths when directing juries in every rape trial theguardian.com/uk-news/2026…

I met @ICOnews Interim CEO Paul Arnold and raised concerns of victims and bereaved families. Victims of the Nottingham and Southport attacks have highlighted the harm and distress caused by data breaches. Stronger safeguards and accountability are needed to safeguard privacy.
Victims of violent and high-profile crimes have written to the head of the NHS and the heath secretary asking them to stop NHS staff from accessing their records Sky's health correspondent Ashish Joshi speaks victims, and explains what they are calling for

I have met bereaved families impacted by the delay in bringing Jade’s Law into force. They genuinely believed the law was already in effect and they were protected. Imagine the shock and devastation of discovering that protection wasn’t there. Bereaved families deserved better.
A law that was passed to suspend the parental rights that killers have over their children from their prison cell is still not in force, more than two years on, leaving families feeling 'completely let down', Sky's @Mollie_Malone1 explains.

Productive meeting with @policeconduct Director General Rachel Watson. We discussed opportunities to develop a trauma-informed approach to police complaints that listens to victims' experiences and ensures victims' perspectives are properly considered throughout the process.

As next wave of early releases approaches, this @HMIProbation report is a timely reminder that tagging alone cannot guarantee public protection. If tagging is to safeguard victims, it needs a system capable of delivering protection at every stage. My words in @DailyMail ⬇️
A joint thematic inspection published today from @HMIProbation and @HMICFRS has found that electronic monitoring failings across the justice system are leaving victims and the public at risk. Read the full report here: buff.ly/8r43mw7

34 adjournments. Just imagine being told 34 times that the day you've been preparing for isn't happening. The uncertainty, the emotional toll, the repeated disruption to someone's life. How much are victims expected to endure? Thank you to Baroness Brinton, Lord Russell and the Victims' Commissioner for keeping these experiences at the heart of the debate. Court reform must be about more than clearing a backlog. It's about the people waiting for justice.
Emma endured 34 adjournments before her case concluded. Her experience highlights the human cost of court delays. Thank you to Baroness Brinton for keeping victims' experiences at the centre of yesterday's debate. 🔗My Courts and Tribunals Bill briefing: victimscommissioner.org.uk/c…

*CAMPAIGN WIN* We are incredibly pleased to hear that the government has announced the testing of tech that will help transform audio recordings in mags courts. This will modernize the appeals process and make transcripts available. A huge step in the right direction for victims

The determined campaigning of Jebina Islam, Farah Naz & Ayse Hussein in memory of their loved ones was central to this reform. Sentencing is a crucial opportunity to address offenders directly and outline the impact of crime. Under new powers, attending court is not optional.
Cowardly offenders who refuse to attend their sentencing will be punished in prison under tough new rules set out today. Judges will be given new powers to restrict prisoners' social visits and confine them to their cells as punishment for not attending.

Safeguarding women and children is fundamental to halving violence against women and girls: that must mean properly funding access to justice.
Vulnerable families including victims of domestic abuse are unable to find adequate representation in the family courts because chronically low fees are driving barristers away from legal aid work, the chair of the @FamilyLawBar warns. Full interview 👉 tinyurl.com/2p76kyrb

Victims experience the justice system as one system. Government too often treats it as several. Until we reform justice as a whole, victims will keep paying the price. Read the article below.

81,000 Crown Court cases are waiting for trial. Behind every number is a survivor waiting for justice and closure. After speaking in the House of Lords, survivors urge Parliament to use the Courts and Tribunals Bill to act. Justice delayed is trauma prolonged.

The Courts and Tribunals Bill is a rare opportunity to tackle the backlog crisis. Later this week, survivors will share with Peers the human cost of court delays. Victims have heard promises before. They now need evidence that reform will deliver swifter justice and real change.

Ahead of tomorrow’s next tranche of releases, I am keeping up the pressure on the Government to ensure everyone released early is fitted with a tag before release. Government must act at pace. Public safety and the protection of victims must come first.
The Government must ensure all offenders released early are tagged BEFORE release, using modern GPS technology, not outdated systems. Public safety and victims’ protection must come first. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…
