Victims need confidence that the justice process is fair and based on evidence, not myths and false assumptions about trauma. I am calling for the Courts and Tribunals Bill to require judges to address rape myths when directing juries in every rape trial theguardian.com/uk-news/2026…

I have met bereaved families impacted by the delay in bringing Jade’s Law into force. They genuinely believed the law was already in effect and they were protected. Imagine the shock and devastation of discovering that protection wasn’t there. Bereaved families deserved better.
A law that was passed to suspend the parental rights that killers have over their children from their prison cell is still not in force, more than two years on, leaving families feeling 'completely let down', Sky's @Mollie_Malone1 explains.

34 adjournments. Just imagine being told 34 times that the day you've been preparing for isn't happening. The uncertainty, the emotional toll, the repeated disruption to someone's life. How much are victims expected to endure? Thank you to Baroness Brinton, Lord Russell and the Victims' Commissioner for keeping these experiences at the heart of the debate. Court reform must be about more than clearing a backlog. It's about the people waiting for justice.
Emma endured 34 adjournments before her case concluded. Her experience highlights the human cost of court delays. Thank you to Baroness Brinton for keeping victims' experiences at the centre of yesterday's debate. 🔗My Courts and Tribunals Bill briefing: victimscommissioner.org.uk/c…

*CAMPAIGN WIN* We are incredibly pleased to hear that the government has announced the testing of tech that will help transform audio recordings in mags courts. This will modernize the appeals process and make transcripts available. A huge step in the right direction for victims

Safeguarding women and children is fundamental to halving violence against women and girls: that must mean properly funding access to justice.
Vulnerable families including victims of domestic abuse are unable to find adequate representation in the family courts because chronically low fees are driving barristers away from legal aid work, the chair of the @FamilyLawBar warns. Full interview 👉 tinyurl.com/2p76kyrb

Tagging must manage risk and put victims’ safety first. If bail conditions or tagging conditions are breached, there must be rapid and meaningful consequences. A tag is only a safeguard if the system acts when it is breached.
‘This is a revolving door, isn’t it?!’ @NickFerrariLBC is staggered by Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley’s claim that the police have to deal with over 100 tag breaches a day.

"We're going to reach a time when we can't recover... It's not sensible for any aspect of our criminal justice life." Lord Leveson, who led the review of criminal courts, says he thinks his proposal to curb jury trials was right - despite ministers now ditching the plan.

Today I’ve been speaking about my deep disappointment that criminal justice has not been prioritised in the PM’s plan for Britain. Today should surely be the wake-up call. Criminal justice reform must be a priority. Victims deserve justice and safety. victimscommissioner.org.uk/n…

‘There will be women across the country who will have to live in the most awful state of fear and anxiety.’ @voice4victims says it was an ‘oversight’ for Burnham not to focus on the criminal justice system, as 700 criminals have walked free under the early release scheme.

A warm welcome to @catkinson80, the new Chair of the Justice Committee. Victims and families must be at the heart of justice reform. Their lived experience can help inform change to make our justice system more timely, effective and accessible.

Claire Waxman is absolutely right: justice delayed is justice denied. When victims are waiting years for trial, dropping out of cases and losing faith in the system, this is no longer just a backlog. It’s a justice and public safety crisis. observer.co.uk/news/national…

the courts and tribunals bill about to enter it's reports stage it's important to remember why it's nesassary. Cases like mine shouldn't take almost six years from report to sentencing. 60% of complainants withdraw leaving them with an injustice and their perp free to reoffend

Victims and families have been warning for months about the impact of early release. The prison crisis risks becoming a public safety crisis. When Parliament returns, fixing our justice system must be a top priority for the Prime Minister.

Today I’ve published Forgotten Victims: Barriers to Justice Following a Road Traffic Collision. This was the late Baroness Helen Newlove’s last piece of research. I’m proud to publish it in her memory and carry forward her commitment to victims. ⬇️
Behind every road crime stat is a grieving family 'left in the dark'. Too often, victims' and bereaved families' pain is compounded by long delays, poor communication, and a lack of dedicated support. 🔗Read my latest report: victimscommissioner.org.uk/d…

My thoughts are with the families of Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo and Sheryl Wilkins, and all those affected. Nothing can undo their loss. If warning signs are missed and risk isn’t acted on, Govt won’t halve VAWG. Public protection must be a top priority for the Prime Minister.
The Simon Levy case is one of the most shocking examples of systemic failure in recent years. With more offenders set to be managed in the community under early release measures, ministers must show the system can keep the public safe. Full statement: 🔗victimscommissioner.org.uk/n…

Calling for a review was the right thing to do. The Govt listened to victims and made some important changes. But it has not gone far enough. Today’s news will bring mixed reactions, as many victims continue to pay the price for a broken justice system bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20e…
