~11 years ago I worked with one of the best engineering teams in the world on @magicleap's waveguide and photonics subsystem. The goal was to mass produce AR glasses in the US / North America. We built a robot that automated optical metrology across the production lines. Without automation, you can’t scale. 👓🏭
Waveguide decisions don’t stop at design. Fabrication, metrology, alignment, and calibration all help determine how well optical intent carries through to the finished optic. See how we approach the challenge. magicleap.com/stories/why-hi…

Manufacturing robotics must become faster and cheaper in the US
What goes into building a humanoid? From custom part to running robot, the Atlas shop floor is built on precision, rapid assembly, and real-time collaboration. By machining parts in-house and streamlining assembly and repair under one roof, we are driving the manufacturing velocity needed to turn complex designs into walking hardware at scale. Fun to see cold-gas thrusters on a road car. We actually used compressed air on our Hyperloop pod to levitate and move freely. Air is cool 💨
Real life, baby

10 million humanoid robots is enough physical labor to build New York City in 5 months and the first Optimus factory will manufacture that many robots in a single year
The Optimus factory construction at Giga Texas is progressing rapidly. It'll be a massive 7 million sq ft facility with a targeted capacity of 10 million Optimus per year. Initial production is planned to begin in 2027. The Fremont facility, planned for 1 million per year, is expected to begin production this year.

Boring Company is working on a simple, precursor Hyperloop tunnel between Austin and San Antonio (>200 mph). Due to traffic congestion, that journey can currently take up to 2.5 hours. @BoringCompany can reduce that to a consistent <30 mins.

The key is to efficiency and scale is reusability. Just like rockets, you can’t just throw the boring machine away, it must be autonomous and reusable. That’s how you scale manufacturing.
Prufrock-5 finishing a test-tunnel in Bastrop, Texas. The ~900,000 lb boring machine will re-launch in November.

nothing worse than doing 40km/hr sprints at the track and slamming into a safety wall while your waist implodes and sparks fly
WATCH: A humanoid robot training for the “Robot Olympics” in Beijing runs too fast, fails to stop, slams into a safety cushion, and breaks at the waist

Terafab will be built in Grimes County, Texas In April, we broke ground on our research fab on the North Campus of Giga Texas – the precursor to Terafab. Both Tesla & SpaceX will need far more chips than current & future global production can supply. This is why we're building the largest chip manufacturing facility ever, with the goal of producing over 1 terawatt of compute per year The future is built in Texas spacex.com/updates#terafab

I finally have all 1.2 million raw image files from my latest mission to ISS! Here is a sample of one of my favorite Milky Way photos, taken from the Cupola with Nikon Z9, Arri Zeiss 15mm lens, T1.8 with custom sidereal drive that cancelled out star motion relative to our orbit.

We specialize in liquid cooling manifolds, come talk to us if there is any interest! youtube.com/shorts/U68vzOsn7…
Water usage has been a hot topic in the AI data center world, but the numbers may surprise you. According to the Manhattan Institute, data centers use 0.2 percent of daily water usage in the U.S. and that number has dramatically decreased in the past few years due to a new method: liquid cooling. By moving to 45°C liquid cooling, AI factories in favorable climates can use dry coolers instead of conventional cooling-tower-based systems, cutting facility cooling water use from roughly 2.6M gallons per MW per year to near zero. Liquid cooling enables AI factories to be both water and energy efficient, while creating opportunities for heat reuse and dispersal to local communities, allowing these factories to become energy grid assets. What if quoting CNC parts took minutes? With APG, it does. Aether’s Autonomous Process Generator analyzes uploaded part designs, identifies manufacturing operations, and delivers transparent quoting in minutes instead of days or weeks. Less back-and-forth. More visibility. Faster paths to production. That will be one hell of a building!
This would roughly be the scale of the Tesla/SpaceX TERAFAB compared to Tesla’s Giga Texas factory, which is already one of the largest buildings in the world. We are talking about an unprecedented amount of scale.
