First GWAS of binge eating disorder using machine learning-based EHR phenotype @NatureGenet. One of the GWAS hits is hemochromatosis variant C282Y in HFE implicating iron metabolism in disease etiology. Congrats @panos_roussos @voloudakis and team.

Phenotype misclassifications in the GWAS cohorts dilute effect sizes and reduce statistical power. Here the authors describe a statistical approach to quantify and adjust for effect size dilutions in GWAS meta-analysis. Interesting!

The first GWAS of binge eating disorder identifies loci near HFE, MCHR2 and LRP11. At the HFE locus, one of the risk variants is the hemochromatosis variant thereby linking iron overload with bing eating (looks like the opposite of iron deficiency and pica). Fascinating!
Collaborative work at @LabRoussos, Voloudakis Lab and Hildebrandt Lab performs the first GWAS in binge-eating disorder in the Million Veteran Program. Congrats to David, Trevor and Georgios for driving this project! medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
