It's hard to even describe how satisfying this victory is. Mike Rogers ran the most disgustingly racist, Islamophobic campaign in recent memory. He and Trump relentlessly attacked El-Sayed for his name, the color of his skin, and his religion. None of it worked. The people of Michigan rose up, rejected bigotry, and voted for the man who wants to get money out of politics, money in their pockets, and Medicare for All.
"We won, so Mike, enjoy your retirement. I know you got a house in Florida and two yachts. See, you chose hate and Michigan chose hope," said El-Sayed. "May we never have to see the likes of you in this state again."
But perhaps the funniest part of El-Sayed's speech was when he brought up Vance, with whom he has been feuding back and forth with for months.
"JD, habibi, there is this delicious irony in the fact that you're constitutionally obligated to swear me in in January, so you know what that means," said El-Sayed. "Wolverine 1, Buckeye 0."
"Donald, look, I know you struggled with my name, so after JD swears me in in January, you can just go on and call me Senator," he added.
Senator-elect El-Sayed, you are the very best this country has to offer. Congrats on running an incredible campaign and defeating these fascist monsters!

🇺🇸🇮🇱 2 people working on Republican Mike Rogers' Michigan Senate campaign are also REGISTERED FOREIGN AGENTS for Israel, federal records show.
And the connections go considerably deeper.
Campaign spokesperson Abigail Ronson and communications operative Jesse Stokes both work through Convergence Media, a Republican consulting firm that has received MILLIONS from Rogers' campaign.
Ronson registered as a foreign agent in May, while Stokes registered in October 2025.
Both are involved in an Israeli government-backed communications operation run through Havas Media and Clock Tower X, a company owned by former Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale.
The operation has involved at least $46.5 MILLION in disclosed payments and contracted advertising, including efforts to push pro-Israel messaging across social media and influence what AI chatbots say about Israel.
The overlap extends well beyond these 2 individuals.
An earlier investigation by The Intercept and Responsible Statecraft found that 14 of the 18 people working on Parscale's Israeli project were ALSO staffers at Convergence Media.
Meanwhile, metadata from Rogers' campaign documents reportedly identifies Stokes as the author of press releases announcing his Senate run.
Ronson has been speaking to reporters using an official Rogers campaign email address, despite the campaign previously denying she was a staffer.
She was also photographed yesterday at a campaign event alongside Rogers and Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens.
Registering as a foreign agent is legal, and the filings do not establish wrongdoing.
But with voters heading to the polls TOMORROW, Rogers' campaign has yet to explain whether it knew that people handling its communications were also working on behalf of a foreign government.
