Why few elderly people cycle in #Tallinn?
1) Limited and unsafe bike lanes
2) Limited bike parking around apartment buildings
3) CityGov promote cars over others...

Transportation planning is a geometry puzzle. You only have so much space to work with, and the goal (I hope!) is to give people practical options for getting around.

#Tallinn says there is no need to build bike lanes, turned down 40M EU funding for building new tram lines and gives priority to cars. Photo of pavement/bike lane this week from the biggest bridge we have. Sad. Very sad ๐ข
American bike advocates routinely (and correctly) talk about Dutch design being a gold standard.

Does your kid walk/cycle to school or would you need to drive them? Why?
As our kids go #BackToSchool, never forget that we ARE the traffic that weโre afraid of. If more kids walked, biked or rode transit to school, it would erase a massive number of car trips each day, and our kids would be safer, healthier and better at school.
Spread the word.

โOne mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss.โ
โWhich means that Copenhagen, a city of 1.2 million people, saves $357 million a year on health costs because something like 80% of its population commutes by bike.โ grist.org/biking/one-mile-onโฆ
Netherlands is doing some interesting urban pilots.
Should owning and driving a car be human right... when its 6 times more expensive (and polluting) to society than cycling?
