Alley Cat Allies is fighting for justice for Trooper after she was fatally shot with a blowgun dart earlier this year. This week, we raised our reward to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Trooper's shooter.
Our team was also on the ground in Catawba County, North Carolina, where Trooper lived. We distributed flyers about our reward and met with veterinary clinics, animal services, and other key community members to provide our expert educational materials and build important connections.
With your support, we are taking strong action against animal cruelty and building the foundation for wider community change--in Trooper's memory and for cats across the county.

BREAKING NEWS:
Alley Cat Allies filed a landmark* lawsuit against the City of Lincolnton and Mayor Mike McCombs for unlawfully permitting a private citizen—Mayor McCombs’ wife, Lizzy Long—to shoot and kill Piper the cat.
The entire incident was captured on police body camera in April 2026. Piper did not die immediately from the gunshot and suffered extreme distress before succumbing to the injury.
Although a warrant was issued for Long’s arrest for animal cruelty, it was recalled the very same day.
Public officials and their friends and family are not above the law. Mayor McCombs and the City of Lincolnton must answer for the heinous cruelty to Piper and abuse of authority. Alley Cat Allies will not stop fighting until Piper receives justice.

*There are no cases reported to Westlaw alleging ultra vires claims against a government official that resulted in acts of animal cruelty.

"A huge thank you to everyone who donated towards blankets for our dogs. We’re still waiting for the second delivery, but it should arrive soon. Once the blankets are in place, we’ll share some videos showing the dogs enjoying them in their kennels.
Temperatures are gradually dropping, but fortunately we relocated the dogs from north-east China in June. Winters there are considerably colder than in the area where they’re now being cared for, so we’re relieved they’re no longer facing those harsher conditions."

Dear friends,
❄️ **WINTER IS COMING.** ❄️
And King Max has issued a royal decree: **the cats need new beds.** 👑😸
We’re adding **50 cozy new sleep pods** around the sanctuary so our cats have warm, quiet places to curl up, escape the hustle and bustle, and settle in for some serious winter napping.
And here’s the fun part…
For **$50, you can sponsor a bed AND choose the name that goes on it.** ❤️
Name it after your own beloved pet, someone you love, someone you miss, or simply choose a name that makes you smile.
Your sponsorship provides:
🐾 A durable new cat bed
🐾 A soft, warm lining
🐾 A personalized name plaque chosen by YOU
**Maximum 16 characters for the name.**
There are only **50 beds in the kingdom**—so choose your name and claim a cozy spot for one of Ernesto’s cats before winter arrives.
👉 **Sponsor your bed here:**

This summer, I helped an 88 year old woman in Santa Fe move into Assisted Living in Albuquerque. She and her cat Fred made the move, but when her health took a downturn, she gave Fred to me. Each day I send her a photo of Fred. Here's the one I sent today.

❄️ 🥶❗ BLANKET APPEAL❗ 🥶 ❄️
"BLANKETS ARE ARRIVING! BUT WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP!
Our first blankets are arriving, and we’re so grateful to everyone who has helped make this possible. ❤️
But we’re not there yet!
We still need to raise more funds to buy enough blankets to keep all our dogs warm, safe and comfortable throughout the winter.
Every single donation, no matter how small, makes a difference.
🐾 Small fleece blankets – US$2.99 each
🐾 Large, thicker blankets – US$5.98 each
Could you help us buy just one blanket?
It might seem like a small thing, but to a dog facing another cold winter, a warm blanket means so much.
