People are yearning for more "real life." Running clubs, hiking tours, ski instructing... it's just so clear to me the explosion of analog.

Excellent:
Agency is an undying commitment to iteration. Learning and doing in unison. Making mistakes and correcting mistakes without being seduced back into a comforting conformity because “it’s not working.”
High agency people treat life as one giant experiment.

In today’s piece, I write about the 3 Americas: one built on AI speculation, one held together by healthcare, and one running on memes, riffing a bit on Joe Weisenthal’s recent piece on the 'futuristic jobs report'. We’re spending trillions trying to make AI work, even as we fall behind China in basic research, energy, and manufacturing. Healthcare is where the jobs are, but not where the money goes. And for everyone left out, aspirational displacement takes over. People can’t afford homes, so they buy Labubu (funnily enough, imported from China) and Fartcoin and meme stocks. These become emotional and financial stand-ins for stability. Right now, labor increasingly (and as is necessary) maintains an aging population, AI speculation builds a future with a 'You’re Not Invited' sign for most people, and memes let us pretend we’re still part of it.
The BLS has been relying much more on estimates to compute CPI in recent months.
Could this be understating tariff impacts that started to materialize a bit in June CPI data?
