INEC, AI-generated faces and the integrity of Nigeria’s voter register.
WALE BAKARE: "Nigeria is approaching the 2027 general election with technology occupying an increasingly important place in electoral administration. Yet recent reports of suspected artificial intelligence-generated photographs appearing in the preliminary register of voters raise a troubling question. Can Nigerians trust the digital infrastructure on which their democracy increasingly depends? On October 26, the Independent National Electoral Commission published the preliminary register online for public scrutiny. The register contains more than 103 million voters. Within hours, however, Nigerians examining the database began raising concerns about apparently synthetic photographs and questionable entries reportedly appearing among voter profiles." thecable.ng/inec-ai-generate…

If AI Escapes Human Control, Who Protect Africa? #ai #machinelearning
Replying to @thecableng
The control question reaches Africa in a smaller form first. A model already decides a loan, a triage or an exam result here, while the vendor, the training data and the appeal process all sit outside the country. Who does that user appeal to today?
