Let’s take a moment this week to celebrate pioneers like Bernie Grant and Diane Abbott, whose shoulders we all stand on.

Farewell, Alex Wheatle. Just an immeasurable loss to UK writing and Brixton's history, real and imagined. Thank you for being a writer who really walked the walk!

In 1992, Annette Herfken was convinced by her partner of 13 years to accompany him on a romantic getaway, a decision he could never have imagined would end in tragedy.
Merely fifty minutes into their flight to Vietnam, the plane crashed into a mountainous area. Annette awoke to darkness, surrounded by the sounds of panic and distress.
Trapped under the weight of a deceased passenger still buckled into his seat, the chaotic and noisy aftermath of the crash eventually gave way to an eerie silence as she realized she was the sole survivor.
She was left alone with decomposing bodies until the 8th day when rescuers came, before then she battled the thoughts of cannibalizing the bodies around her to survive.
