Some more thoughts on Trump’s truly wild decision to import large quantities of third world beef.

Another poorly-drafted, outsider-funded ballot initiative that will likely put DC taxpayers on the hook for substantial legal costs (not to mention forcing the council to dedicate time and resources to clean-up).

D.C.'s foie gras fight could head to court.
One of America's biggest foie gras producers is consulting lawyers about challenging the proposed ban.
A legal battle has stalled NYC's ban for years — and D.C. could face a costly fight. My latest for @axios

DC voters are deciding on a ballot initiative next week that would ban the production and sale of foie gras in the city.
Whatever your views on the substance, there’s no denying that the underlying campaign, like those behind other recent ballot initiatives, is dominated by outside interest groups. These groups see DC's media market, progressive voter base and small size as the perfect combination for publicity and fundraising. Meanwhile, actual residents are left grappling with the fallout from often-poorly drafted legislation.
In today's Capital Commonsense, I explore the data and history of DC's ballot initiative process, review how other recent ballot initiatives have fared (most have needed serious clean-up after the fact), and propose some reforms that could improve the process and ensure the system serves DC residents ahead of outside interest groups.

At this time we can neither confirm nor deny that Flávio Bolsonaro is safe and secure in a cabin at the wagon box, sipping on Pendleton, listening to After The Goldrush, writing his memoirs on a 1968 Olivetti Lettera 22.
Managed to piss off anti Foie activists and Protestants in the same week. Which means Quebec owes me some sort of award. Possibly political asylum?

D.C. residents can't duck the question any longer: Should foie gras be banned in the city? I talked to voters, influencers, restaurant owners, and @MayorBowser about Initiative 86, a ballot fight over banning a very niche French food: washingtonsun.com/metro/dc/f…

Today in Capital Commonsense—the debate over the foie gras ban gets to the point that our initiatives are overwhelmingly pushed by outside interest groups. 85% of funding is from outside D.C. More from @ChrisJKennedy open.substack.com/pub/capita…

“G.K. Chesterton gave a helpful answer while writing to a fellow author of fairy tales. “The baby has known the dragon intimately ever since he had an imagination,” he wrote in 1909. “What the fairy tale provides for him is a St. George to kill the dragon.” Instead of giving the child a lock for his nursery door, Chesterton suggested we give the child a saint to fight the dragon.”

On November 3rd, Washington, D.C. residents will be asked whether foie gras should be outlawed in the nation's capital. I asked my fellow D.C. residents to VOTE NO on INITIATIVE 86.
If you really are worried about animal cruelty, you should take greater issue with how pigs and chickens are raised in America, not at the process of gavage, which is far more physiologically different from what people imagine. I have added a link below for those concerned.
As a foie gras fan, and as an investor in a restaurant which happily and intentionally serves it, I urge you not to take this culinary delight away from your fellow residents. Vote NO on 86 on November 3rd, and send a message to the anti-joy brigade.
