When well-meaning journalists keep describing Ohio Dr as "popular with cyclists and runners," they do a great disservice to the wide swath of DC folks (and tourists!) who love and enjoy it in many different ways as a lovely park and public space. washingtonpost.com/sports/20…

People of all kinds use it in so many diff ways, including fishing, plane-watching, running, walking, biking, strolling, hanging out, playing (on the playground), having picnics & birthday parties, driving the loop. To say nothing of spring and cherry blossom time.

The POINT is that it's currently a very diverse public space with a million ways to be enjoyed, and the president wants to unilaterally turn it into just one very limited thing that would eliminate ALL other public uses.

A handful of states are pandering by suspending state gas taxes that pay for the roads they drive on. I say: Bring it on and help put a bullet in a mechanism which hasn't covered the direct costs of our ever expanding road network for years. reason.org/commentary/states…

In other news, it's crazy how often @t4america and reason are lining up on some of this stuff these days. :)

Will never forget a dinner party we had in our tiny DC basement (sorry our ENGLISH basement) 20 years ago with like 8 people. We set up tables in the middle of our one room and it was glorious.
I was chatting with a woman I met at an urbanist meet up yesterday who grew up in China. She said nobody ever said "We don't have enough room." I wonder how much of this is American kids who grew up in McMansions and don't know how to do this stuff otherwise

👏"Just because leaders claim to share your priorities does not mean they will do anything meaningful to move those priorities forward." 👏 Why Ds (and progressives) are not reliable on transportation issues Are you reading @BethOsborneSGA's new sub? substack.com/inbox/post/2193…

This is a pretty extreme over-simplification of what happened with the old SunTrust Plaza in Adams Morgan. The main issue wasn’t so much opposition to a building as it was a fight over a decades-old easement that some neighbors said protected the plaza from being built on.
ONE OF D.C.’S MOST OUTRAGEOUS NIMBY SAGAS MAY FINALLY BE ENDING! In 2016, a developer proposed replacing the SunTrust bank and plaza at 18th and Columbia one of the busiest corners in Adams Morgan with 50+ homes, shops and new public space. Then came nearly a decade of opposition and litigation: 2017: Opponents sue 2021: Lawsuit dismissed 2022: Legal fight revived 2023: Vacant property donated 2026: Dispute finally ends 2029: New housing may finally open Now Jubilee Housing plans to break ground in 2027 on a six-story mixed-use building with 51 homes, retail and a new community plaza. That is welcome news, but it could take until 2029 to deliver roughly the same number of homes first proposed 13 years earlier. Public input should shape development. Cities cannot keep letting NIMBYs weaponize the process and leave valuable urban land sitting idle for a decade.

It’s the same distance, but at the risk of losing our secrets, coming from petworth, we get off at the earliest stop (waterfront) and then after, we walk to the stop before a bunch of folks get on our way going home (navy yard)
If you’re going to Audi field, do you get off at waterfront or Navy yard? I thought Navy yard was a no-brainer, but clearly I am wrong.

Thx to @mnolangray, I can't stop seeing the rampant AI in home listing photos. The DC V Street "middle finger" is for rent and their pre- and post-AI shots are hilarious. Yep, you can just quickly add these custom built-ins after you sign your lease! 😂 facebook.com/marketplace/ite…

And somehow the built-ins are both 4 inches deep and 12 inches deep at the same time.

Cities and airports should be asking: How does an airport with so much less passenger capacity than these airports do so much business with so few parking spaces?
Even though Reagan National had nearly as many passengers as BWI Marshall last year & was within 4 million of Dulles (IAD set a record last year), it has way fewer parking spaces. A new garage is expected to help, but it's not fully open yet. #DCA

Anytime I'm taking a brief work trip with only a backpack, I absolutely love being able to bikeshare to DCA. Even faster than metro (~30 mins) some fresh air and exercise. Now that's a great airport!

Certainly, walking or biking into an airport is only possible when you have few to no bags, but it's also worth remembering that travelers aren't the only ones using an airport each day.

I really love this but how is this guy still alive
A different type of speed enforcement.

I'm not going to quote tweet anyone here, but I am so glad my 8 year old is at a school (in the city!) that allows him to walk or bike himself home. And he was able to walk with a sibling for the past two years!

Lost a good, old one in Petworth at 5th and shepherd. Corner market and apartment above may have dodged a bullet as it seems to have leaned over pretty gently but won’t know until it gets removed. And across the 500 block of Taylor

At the Washington Spirit game Sun I again noticed the totally packed bike valet. Asked a staffer this time and he said they have 3X the space allotted for Spirit games vs DC United games. There had to be at least 50-75 E-cargo bikes. So many more families for Spirit games.

My guy, I have some bad news for you about cars and safety.
"What we have to prioritize as a country is compromise." Flock Safety CEO Garrett Langley argues Americans shouldn't be forced to choose between privacy and safety as lawmakers debate restrictions on public safety technology. Langley says he values his own family's privacy, but argues an outright ban goes too far. His comparison: America didn't ban cars because of the risks. It created laws to make them safer.
