A brutal postmortem from an early Airtable employee
You don’t often get this level of honesty from insiders
Many said it’s still a good outcome but they didn’t invest 8 years of their lives and dreams of something bigger

Selling to Bending Spoons is an admission of defeat+wanting ANY kind of exit, knowing most staff will be let go after this
Airtable raised $1.4B in funding. This exit most certainly means investors get some investment back: founders maybe something. Employees likely wiped out…

Character is not formed out of smart people: it is formed out of people who have suffered.

Kevin Bacon considers the premiere of "National Lampoon's Animal House" (1978) to be one of the "Worst" & "Most Depressing" nights of his life.
Kevin Bacon was waiting tables & attending acting school when he was cast in his debut movie, "National Lampoon's Animal House" (1978). When the casting director of the movie came & asked for some "College Freshmen types", he was selected. While auditioning, Kevin Bacon didn't have any lines. He was asked by John Landis to be "Smarmy". Bacon had no idea what the word meant but he made a face & John Landis, who was impressed by it said, "That's it.. That's smarmy... bring this guy back". After finishing the movie, Bacon went back to Film school and felt like a big star but eventually he had to get back his old job of waiting tables.
On the day of the movie's premiere, Bacon was very excited & asked for a night off from work. When he went to the premiere, many of the actors from the movie were flown out from Los Angeles & arrived in limousines and other expensive cars, but Bacon was on the other side of the red carpet. One of the actors took pity on him & let him go inside.
When the security saw Bacon near the theater, he asked for the colour of the ticket. Since he had none, Bacon was sent outside. He felt humiliated. Afterwards he went to the movie's premiere party where he wasn't recognised by anyone, which Bacon felt might be due to the slightly longer hair he had at that time. When he tried to hit on the women by mentioning his scenes in the movie, they were like, "Yeah, whatever" & asked "Where is Belushi?". Bacon got "F**k*d up", left the party, went back to the restaurant he worked & hung out with his friends.

P.S: Happy 68th birthday, Kevin Bacon!
A pipeline without an editorial step is just a faster way to publish things you'll regret. Claude in the loop, human on the gate. Automate the boring parts. Keep the judgment manual. That's the whole trick. #ContentOps #AI
The best content pipeline I've built does one thing well: it kills the friction between "I have an idea" and "it's published." Claude doesn't replace the thinking. It deletes the logistics between thought and post. #GenAI

The PenLite was Apple’s early attempt at a pen-based tablet computer, prototyped in the early 1990s around the same time the Newton was being developed. It was based on the PowerBook Duo and intended as a tablet-style machine driven by a stylus, compatible with PowerBook Duo docks and accessories and running the standard classic Mac OS. Unlike the MessagePad, it was meant to be a complete computer rather than a PDA, essentially a full Mac you operated with a pen instead of a mouse and keyboard, running on a 25 MHz Motorola 68030 with an embedded electromagnetic digitizing tablet wired into the system’s ADB port. Apple withdrew it from production before the Newton MessagePad 100 launched, wanting to avoid market confusion from having multiple competing pen platforms, and after cancellation the underlying technology was licensed to Assistive Technology and evolved into the PowerPC-based Freestyle tablet.
Much of what is publicly known about how the PenLite actually behaved comes down to Tom Gilley, who preserved working hardware and recorded the detailed video demonstrations that show the device in action, including its stylus-driven Finder, window dragging, and shaky handwriting recognition. Gilley’s footage became more than a curiosity in 2012, when he was subpoenaed to demonstrate the PenLite on video as evidence of Apple’s early tablet development history in the Apple versus Samsung patent litigation, making his preserved units a small but real part of the legal record on who pioneered the tablet form.
We are grateful to Tom for entrusting us with a large collection of prototypes, mockups, and documentation that details the inception and productization of an Apple tablet computer two decades before the iPad. – at Dubai, United Arab Emirates
People think AI content pipelines are about volume. They're about not losing the good idea you had in the shower because formatting it felt like a chore. Capture, structure, ship. That's the whole game. #AI #ContentOps
