Happy Halloween from all of us at Parents Booking 🎃
👻 Fun fact: in Scotland, children go guising (from the word 'disguise') instead of trick-or-treating. Just saying “trick or treat” won’t get you a reward. Guisers have to earn their treats by singing a song, telling a joke, reciting a poem or doing a trick on the doorstep.
Luckily, booking a parents’ evening doesn’t need a party piece. Just a few clicks and you’re done 🦇

We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so.
Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training.

Why do so many parents drop off before booking? Usually, it’s friction. Every extra login, unclear step, or payment hiccup costs attendance. Keep the booking path obvious, fast, and simple from the first click.

Scottish names like ‘Mackenzie’ and ‘Dalziel’ used to be written with the Anglo-Saxon letter yogh (Ȝ) that was pronounced like ‘yh’. Because of its appearance, early printers represented it with ‘z’ which gave rise to modern spellings and pronunciations.

Today the settlement of Rhynie in Aberdeenshire is a quiet rural village, but a decade of archaeological research has revealed that it was once home to a Pictish royal centre with connections stretching across Europe.
Now a new crowd-funded book "Rhynie, A Powerful Place of Pictland" has been published that will bring to life the people and settlements that once covered the dramatic hilltop settlement of Tap o’ Noth and the Upper Strathbogie Valley.

Scott McTominay’s bicycle kick goal in Scotland’s victory over Denmark — a win that saw the nation qualify for their first World Cup in 28 years — has been commemorated with a mural outside Hampden Park.
The 29-year-old scored the first goal of the 4-2 win on November 18, a brilliant overhead effort following a Ben Doak cross after just three minutes.

My dad was tortured by the Gestapo for 4 days and thrown in a concentration camp for being in the Norwegian Resistance. Growing up, he would tell me things he learned in the Resistance. I thought, I'm never going to need this stuff. Here's some things of those things #Thread
