The NSA just told the entire internet to patch or go dark.
Effective immediately.
Not "please consider updating."
Not "we recommend patching at your earliest convenience."
Patch or unplug.
Those are the options.
The NSA doesn't issue advisories for every vulnerability.
They issue them when something is bad enough that the spy agency whose entire job is breaking into systems is worried about other people breaking into systems.
PHP powers 43 percent of the web.
The NSA just told 43 percent of the web to stop existing until it gets fixed.
Or patch in the next 24 hours and hope the attackers haven't already gotten in.
Most organizations are picking option three.
Taking it offline.
Safer to be unavailable than compromised.
The Dutch Parliament already did it.
Finland's government already did it.
University of Vienna already did it.
Now the NSA makes it official.
"If an immediate update is not feasible it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated."
Translation: you can't patch fast enough so just shut it down.
Patch takes 30 minutes.
Testing takes hours.
Deployment takes longer.
Meanwhile attackers are already inside.
So the NSA's advice is logical.
If you can't patch in 30 minutes go offline now.
Don't wait for the attacks.
Don't test first.
Don't coordinate with stakeholders.
Just unplug it.
The NSA will follow up with more specific guidance.
Which is intelligence agency speak for we're watching the attack traffic and we'll tell you what else they're doing with the access they already have.
Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

Milton Friedman on how the welfare system strips people of their independence and dignity:
“The people who get on welfare lose their human independence and feeling of dignity. They become subject to the dictates and whims of their welfare supervisor.”
“They’re treated like children, not like responsible adults, and they’re trapped in the system. Maybe a job comes up that looks better than welfare, but they’re afraid to take it because if they lose it after a few months, it may be six months or nine months before they can get back on to welfare.”
“As a result, this becomes a self-perpetuating cycle, rather than simply a temporary state of affairs.”

Olympia claims the new 9.9% "millionaire’s tax" only hits the rich.
Then why did lawmakers explicitly write it to cover retirement pensions, reject every amendment to lock in the $1M threshold, and already float dropping it to $250k?

Dennis Ritchie created C in the early 1970s without Google, Stack Overflow, GitHub, or any AI ( Claude, Cursor, Codex) assistant.
- No VC funding.
- No viral launch.
- No TED talk.
- Just two engineers at Bell Labs. A terminal. And a problem to solve.
He built a language that fit in kilobytes.
50 years later, it runs everything.
Linux kernel. Windows. macOS.
Every iPhone. Every Android.
NASA’s deep space probes.
The International Space Station.
> Python borrowed from it.
> Java borrowed from it.
> JavaScript borrowed from it.
If you have ever written a single line of code in any language, you did it in Dennis Ritchie’s shadow.
He died in 2011.
The same week as Steve Jobs.
Jobs got the front pages.
Ritchie got silence.
This Legend deserves to be celebrated.
In 1910, six men representing a quarter of the world's wealth met in a private railroad car bound for Jekyll Island. Their mission? Draft the legislation that would become the Federal Reserve Act—the greatest banking cartel in human history, sold to the public as "reform."
And they did it all in secret, using fake names, because they knew damn well that Americans would never voluntarily surrender monetary sovereignty to a private banking syndicate.
But here we are, 113 years later, watching these same banking families print trillions while your purchasing power gets obliterated. The Jekyll Island conspiracy wasn't theory—it was the business plan.

dude computers are actually so fucking insane when you really think about it. we literally figured out how to write some fake-ass rules called code and somehow convinced rocks to follow them. like actual rocks. sand, melted, purified, carved into tiny pathways where electricity just flows in patterns. that’s it. that’s the whole magic.
and yet from that we get operating systems, compilers, kernels, networks, distributed systems, machine learning models, entire virtual worlds running inside other virtual worlds. billions of tiny electrical decisions per second, all because we defined some abstract logic.
humans basically invented a language of instructions and taught matter itself to execute it.

Linus Torvalds created Linux at 21 without Claude or any other AI.
- He didn't have a co-founder.
- No VC funding. No office.
- No team.
- Just a personal project
he posted to a mailing list:
"I'm doing a free OS."
33 years later,
it runs 97% of the world's servers, all smartphones, and the International Space Station.
The most important software in history started as someone's side project.
Absolute legend.
