Many thanks to @CBSSunday for a great interview. I would also like to thank the team that have worked so very hard to make SAINT a reality (@EleanorJCole, @BrandonBentzley, @Stanford_BSL). @standfordmed @Stanford @StanfordPSY ajp.psychiatryonline.org/doi…
Depression remains the leading cause of disability worldwide, affecting almost 300 million people, half of whom can't find lasting relief from drugs or therapy. However, a new experimental treatment seems to be hopeful cbsn.ws/2ZU8OjB

We’ve made great strides in treating diabetes & heart disease, but the same can’t be said for illnesses of the brain—like major depression—which affects 17.3 million U.S. adults. This news about SAINT technology holds promise for so many, and couldn’t have come at a better time.

Excellent work from folks at Stanford. Can’t stress enough the importance of fMRI/MRI-guided individualized target localization in #TMS. This is such an interesting method — using the dlPFC location with functional connectivity most anti correlated with sgACC during rest.
Encouraging data in @APAPubJournals from our double-blinded RCT evaluating Stanford Neuromodulation Therapy (SNT) for treatment-resistant #depression. After 5 days, 79% in the active group experienced remission from depression compared to 13% in sham. ajp.psychiatryonline.org/doi…

Additionally, no severe adverse events occurred during the trial! The only side effect that approached statistical significance in the active treatment group over the sham treatment group was headache.

Whenever I am asked to find something in a drawer full of kids' clothes, it feels exactly like needing to find one particular snake in a drawer full of identical snakes
"Alexander von Humboldt found a dead bird in his garden and placed a blade of zinc in the beak and a shaft of silver into the rectum. An electric shock caused the bird to flap its wings and attempt to walk. He also tried the experiment on himself with unpleasant consequences."
