Everyone at Widnes Vikings is saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Roberts.
Our deepest thoughts and condolences are with Steve’s friends and family at this time. ❤️
We have some sad news to bring you this evening - our former presenter and commentator, Steve Roberts, has passed away at the age of 75
For over 30 years, Steve covered many sports, including rugby league and presented the legendary Try Time programme alongside Ray French and Allan Rooney
Not only was he a brilliant broadcaster and a consummate pro, he was a great friend to many
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to Steve's family and friends

Beyond gutted to hear this news earlier today. Steve was the man who gave me my opportunity to commentate on @bbcmerseysport several years ago.
He was a trusted confidant, his door was always open and he always treated you with such warmth, something that he personified further whenever he spoke about June and his family.
I go past his house on my way to every Widnes home game, and it'll be sad to no longer see him at the occasional game or catch up over a garden centre breakfast!
For me, he gave me encouragement and confidence. He spoke about how his own career in broadcasting only started in his 40s, and I know he was an asset to every organisation he worked with, including for a short spell Widnes Vikings, who he was a constant champion of and of course narrated many fine moments in the club's history.
I will always try to be a bit more Steve. RIP Sir, and thanks.
