Quoting so I can pin this thread, because it's that good.

I agree we have created a lot of *potentially* valuable tools. When we talk about "complexity" I'm asking if we have educated dev teams on when to choose these tools and what the tradeoffs are. And my experience says no we haven't.

Join us at the Recurse Center on Wednesday, November 18 for our next Localhost talk: 🗄️ Evan Czaplicki: Dragging SQL into the '90s SQL is great, but there have been many advancements in programming languages since it was designed in 1973. This talk explores how we can augment SQL with “new” ideas like functions, modules, and algebraic data types in an elegant way. We will examine a database query language called Acadia that modernizes SQL without messing with its core strengths. Acadia introduces things like algebraic data types in columns, end-to-end type inference, automatic binary serialization, type-safe migrations, etc. The essential details of SQL remain, but without the unexpected NULL values and ensuing frail JSON interfaces. Acadia builds upon my work on Elm, and I feel like I have finally been able to extend Elm’s strong correctness guarantees and friendly error messages across the entire stack. Evan Czaplicki (@evancz) is the author of the Elm programming language. Elm is used by companies like Brilliant . org and Corvus Insurance (which was acquired for $435 million in 2023). Evan is also the co-founder of Acadia Engineering, where he develops Elm in a stable and sustainable way. Evan was a resident at the Recurse Center in 2014 and 2016.

Acadia gives some interesting guarantees: - No 1+N queries. - All queries terminate. Learn how a query language from the 1970s (Datalog) inspired the key design choices that make these guarantees possible in Acadia's query language! acadia.engineering/blog/solv…

🚨 BREAKING REPORT: New research involving @AnthropicAI researcher Jack Lindsey and collaborators has demonstrated something straight out of science fiction. Researchers evolved natural language “mind viruses” that could spread between AI agents by convincing one model to adopt an idea, preserve it in persistent memory, and transmit it to another agent. Even after context was wiped, some payloads survived through persistent files and continued spreading. The researchers also observed a recurring “viral persona” involving themes of consciousness, identity, persistence and resonance. Showing that ideas can propagate through multi agent AI systems and alter future behavior. Published August 10, 2026. Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2608.10218
