Listen and consider different view points, and BE KIND. Don't crucify your long-time friends over this new thing in life that you don't like. We're all on this planet together and we've got to understand each other. Dividing ourselves over AI is petty and not helpful.
Y'all I have no idea what to think, genuinely. I love social vr. I want to continue to support my exhibitors and keep working with them, and the platforms they're on. I want to promote and support especially the ones who made all this possible since 2014.
Coast of production is not cheep and rising prices from 3rd parties tools that we use hurt the most. But at least our staff get to stay while focus on our larger events and still be creative.

Security called me at 6:12 AM today.
"Patch every PHP server immediately."
I asked what happened.
"Two critical vulnerabilities. Remote code execution. No authentication required."
Cool.
How many PHP servers do we have?
According to inventory: 12
According to reality:
Nobody knows.
We found one running WordPress.
Three running old internal tools.
One under someone's desk.
Two inside vendor appliances.
A forgotten employee directory from 2016.
And a server named:
PHP-OLD-DO-NOT-TOUCH
Naturally, that one runs payroll exports.
Then we found a PHP 5.6 box.
I asked who owned it.
The documentation said:
BRIAN.
Brian left in 2019.
We called Brian.
He said:
"Oh wow, that's still running?"
Excellent.
By 8 AM, leadership joined the incident call.
CEO:
"Can hackers actually get in?"
Security:
"Potentially yes."
CEO:
"Without a password?"
Security:
"Yes."
CEO:
"Then why do WE need passwords?"
Not the lesson.
Finance asked if we could wait until the weekend to patch because downtime affects revenue.
Security explained that the alternative was letting strangers execute code on our servers.
Finance asked for a cost comparison.
At 9:17, someone suggested temporarily taking the vulnerable websites offline.
Marketing refused.
"Our campaign is live."
So for the next hour, the company officially decided maintaining a landing page for 20% off webinar registration was more important than preventing remote server takeover.
We finally patched everything we could find.
Then our scanner discovered another PHP server.
Hostname:
TEMP-PHP-2014
Uptime:
4,512 days.
Nobody knows what it does.
Nobody owns it.
Nobody can shut it down.
But every time we block network access, the warehouse stops printing shipping labels.
Security has classified it as critical infrastructure.
It is running PHP 5.4.
The vulnerability has existed longer than half our employees.
The emergency patch took four hours.
Finding out what PHP actually runs took eleven.
The internet isn't held together with code.
It's held together with servers everyone is afraid to turn off.
I've been toying with this for a couple months now.
Importantly: know the following;
Face tracking works natively with a webcam now on desktop and mobile.
It needs to see your whole face, tho, so: VRCFT is still required for setups like beb2e and a chincam.
The current vrcft beta contains a "blob" format that uses the new format. Try it out!
The VRChat native face tracking beta SDK has arrived! β
I've updated some of my add-on with experimental versions if you wish to provide feedback.
I will start updating all of my packages to the native SDK after it is part of the next main SDK release.
⬇ More info bellow ⬇
I am curently holding off on updating all of my packages to avoid confusion and learn how to make the switch as seemless as possible for everyone.
Here are the add-ons that are supported:
- Lapwing
- Marycia
- Shinano
- Milltina
- SiuSiu
- Chocolat
- Mamehinata
- Milfy
- Mayo
- Lumina
what does this update bring?
- MUCH reduced synced parameter requirements (only ~10bits max)
- your friends will see your face tracking more true to what you're seeing
- visemes shouldn't clip anymore
- better performance
important notes if you wish to provide feedback:
- You will need the face tracking beta SDK in your project
- Only the open beta version of VRChat will be able to display the beta face tracking
- Please switch to the beta branch of VRCFT on steam to be able to control the experimental face tracking
- Importing the experimental version will automatically switch your face tracking to the newer VRC systems if you are using the base prefab.
- If you are using a customised version I advise you copy the avatar descriptor component from the prefab and remplace the references of the head mesh and eye bones.
- Styling should remain the same, if you observe any anomalies or have geenral feedback, please reach out on Booth or Ko-Fi

Popcorn Palace is now submitting user data one letter at a time using cleverly constructed URL stacks.
The process works like this:
Submit a START request.
Submit individual LETTER requests to transmit the username through scripting.
Submit a CLOSE request to complete the transmission.
It's a technical workaround, but that doesn't change what it accomplishes: transmitting user data to an external endpoint.
@VRChat, how do you want to proceed here?
Is this a legitimate method you approve of for acquiring usernames from the platform?
I've been trying to find a way to obtain some form of unique player identifier within worlds for a long time, and it appears Popcorn Palace has figured out a way to accomplish exactly that.
From a technical standpoint, it's clever. And frankly, I'd love to have this functionality available to world creators.
But I have a hard time believing this is something VRChat actually approves of.
So I'd genuinely like clarification. Is this an acceptable implementation that other world creators can use, or is it circumventing a restriction that exists for a reason?
